Also---remember Lyle has a great relationship with Blackmon. I just can't see him coming in at semester and taking a backseat to our current guards.  Don't see how that work out very well. I still vote no but this is interesting stuff!

I brought this up about a month ago---just reading tea leaves here---but by sending staff to see Kasongo recently and still looking at Lyle---I am not even sure we are done with 2014 recruiting yet. They could come at semester break. Don't ask me where the scholly comes from but remember Zags said IU was willing to take both Holt and Kasongo if they would come even though we only had one scholly left at the time.. I am betting Crean has a tentative scholly situation worked out with one of our current recruits----only thing that makes sense to me.

But there are no "recruits" on the team, they are called scholarship players now. Unless he would just give someone the boot, it's just not possible at semester break.

I agree HoosierD---there would have to be some pre-arranged agreement or plan in place with one or more of our current recruits/players for this to make sense.  That's something we are not privy to unless it occurs.

Seems like all recruiting news is strange lol. Recruiting is definitely one of the most entertaining things to follow.

That's kind of weird, because how I look at it, Kasongo and Lyle both have a side chick while they figure their life out and their main chick is waiting in the wings. Hoosier Sport's situation sounds more like Eron Harris or Blueitt.

Yeah or Hovadipo----I was also thinking of Jalen Coleman---a top guard----honor student---involved in community service---interested in busiess school---from Indiana----and no Indiana player has gone to Illinois in 30 years.  If his verbal is oral only and not in writing--- it is not binding yet, correct?  Anybody got any info?

 

He doesn't seem like an Illinois player to me---seems like an IU player!

Good point. Coleman is in the same scenario Gordon was. No signature, just a verbal. If we could flip him, just wow. Do you realize how much crap I could talk to all of my Illinois friends? That would be glorious. I can only hope that's happening lol.

I would be absolutely ecstatic if we could switch Coleman.  I'd love if it was Blueitt too though.

While a verbal agreement is non binding and can actually be rescinded at any time between both the school and player, college basketball has a gentlemen's agreement that other schools should no longer still recruit these players. It is totally unlike football where there is no such agreement and kids are recruited right up til signing day. Of course a gentlemens agreement in this day and age is becoming much less of a factor considering the Eric Gordon recruitment, Cal and Trey Lyles, and the instagram photo of all the letters JB2 was receiving long after he committed. Supposedly the coaches association were supposed to police this activity and try to black ball etc... those coaches that broke this agreement. I don't know the associations position on it now other than it probably doesn't like it but can't do anything about it. In other words, it doesn't exist anymore since the ones breaking it are getting the players.
