IU @ Bowling Green Post-Game Thread

Recommended Posts

IU has a rare opportunity to have the inside track on a guy that is likely to be a hot commodity come the offseason. If Wilson can't turn this season around and someone get to a bowl, the fans/boosters will be calling for his head. Rod Carey has done wonders at NIU and this year is showing he can win w/o Jordan Lynch. Being a Hoosier, he would have much more of a connection to this program than any others that come calling.

When has IU football had any upper hand in snagging a hot coaching prospect? No bowl = no more CKW, in my opinion.

To answer your question, I would imagine Terry Hoeppner was the closest we've had to hiring a "hot name."  I would agree though, that the way this season is looking it would be tough to justify keeping Wilson around if they don't show progress. And they certainly haven't to this point.

Rod Carey will have one good season and then will be gone to the first big name that comes calling. Alumni or not, just the way it is.

Hell, I'm not even sure leaving Northern Illinois for IU is a step up for the guy. And I'm one of the biggest IUFB homers around.

I don't think anyone wants this curse of a job. Wilson knows he's done but I have no idea who we would even hire. We miss out on a bowl again because there's no way we lose to a MAC school and think we have a shot against the BIG. We may even lose to Purdue.

Well, we've only had one good season in the last 20+ years so...I'd take it.  I'd hope for the guy to be our Gary Barnett, not that he would stay long but he would turn it around just enough that his successors would have a more attractive situation in place.  Sometimes I think people get too hung up on the idea of having a lifer coach, I don't know that you can have that kind of guy at IU for football.  Coach Hep may have been the one exception but otherwise it is likely that IU in the best case scenario is a stepping-stone job . The key is you want it to become a GOOD stepping-stone job instead of a BAD one.  Maybe I'm being a bit pessimistic in that regard but I'd rather see us have job turnover due to success as opposed to failure.
