Hurryin' Hoosiers!

Recommended Posts

What has shaken out so far is we have no bigs. What we do have, is a fast team that will murder the three and exhaust defenses. CTC has proven in the past that this is the offense he prefers, and can coach it well. While we may not have a big to protect the rim, we have speed and shooting that will more than compensate. Defensively  I.U. can wreak havoc on offenses with full, or thee quarter pressure off baskets, to take them out of their rhythm, and fast break down the court to minimize our weakness. If Hanner can hold his own and Devin can bring out the A.J. Moye in himself... This could be the team that gets it done!! My opinion of course. Look forward to hearing what everyone else thinks.

I sure hope your right. I would love nothing more to see it happen. The only problem with Hurryin' the younger/newcomers is still the turnover issue.

While I do like the idea of a using a press, it doesn't seem we've ever really seen it.  Usually just a defender shadowing the ball handler up the court.  Seems like this past year would've been a good time to use a pressing defense.

I wonder how much they've all been practicing their ball handling and passing?  my guess would be A LOT !    They know what went wrong, and it was turnover city.  I'm hoping they come out with some good hands above most else.

Crean needs to look at some old vhs tapes of the Paul Westhead Loyola Marymount teams. You can win a lot ofgame if you outscore your opponents and this may a way to success for this team. Plus it would be fun to watch!

You always win when you outscore your opponent  :D .  I have yet to see a basketball game where the team with fewer points won.

We suffered through 3 years of it. It's called a "moral victory".

That word actually makes me sick now...

Ha ha very true. My point being this may be our best way to nuetralize the lack of size from this team. Combine with a press or 3/4 or 1/2 court trap and we may have something. Unfortunately a lot of depth is needed to do this, see Arkansas national championship, so we just may not have enough players. Another option would be to take the air out of the ball on offense and go into past Wisconsin mode and zone press to take clock off on the defensive end. Crean will have his work cut out for him ths year.

we're going to be every bit as young as we were last year

I'm afraid we're about to see a team with a higher turnover % than last season which is just incredibly scary for me

you always hear about great coaches adapting their systems to fit their talent. I wish we had seen that at some point last season once it became clear we weren't capable of protecting the ball to the extent you need to when playing an offensive style that emphasizes running and dribbling. We're going to see that same style and I just don't buy that a couple kids who can shoot are going to change everything when we've got such a massive void to fill due to Noah's early departure

the Hurrying Hoosiers should be the deliberate Hoosiers IMO but we know Crean can't change

Do you really think that a young, talented team which is short on half-court interior presence should be a "deliberate" team?

I'm not advocating VCU-style havoc, but I think we will be much better suited for a fast pace this coming season.

Crean will show us this year if he can adapt... Talent has trumped his coaching in the past. If it does again this year, he's golden in the "fair weather" eye. If it doesn't... It really doesn't matter, the buyout is to big. I am rooting for Crean like nobody this year cause I really like the guy, and I feel like he is still trying to adjust to the spotlight that is INDIANA! Give up the ghost of last year and let the players play!!

Boy o boy, I agree with you on all counts. Crean was BAD on epic proportions last season. Johnny Marlin getting meaningful minutes? Hartman? Inbounds? Howard playing over Perea/Davis. Not finding a way to utilize Vonleh? Teach TW how not to take steps before ball hits floor? I want to pull my hair out. I really like the guy but.......... I still can't get over the recruiting position we are in. It all comes down to recruiting and he appears to have lost something.

We haven't lost anyone recently and we have plenty of targets out there. I really don't understand where your all is lost mentality regarding recruiting is coming from.

I agree completely... The in bounds blew my mind... After a time out no less!! Crean has made a point on his summer tours of making a change in his coaching to utilize what he has... we will see if that is truly the case this year. Our recruiting speaks for itself... What 5, 4, or even three star wants to play for a coach that can't utilize them properly? We have no bigs because he can't coach bigs "in game". Watch I.U. vs that team south of us, and listen to Dicky V imploring Crean to use Cody!! You can't have a big at I.U. unless they are 5 star anymore.
