Is this who I think it is? This name looks quite familiar from a previous board! :)

That bad news, though, is that we are still at the bottom of the B1G.

The bottom line, as far as I'm concerned, is that we're recruiting better than we ever have, have better facilities, have better coaches and a growing fan base. In time, these factors will converge to either push us past the OSU's and Michigans of the BIG, or at least make the gap so narrow as to be a negligible factor. Rankings are so subjective anyway, and I like the team that coach Wilson is building.

The rankings are now out of 14 teams so we're not at the very bottom of the rankings like we had been in the past.  We don't have any 4 stars but we have a lot of recruits that had competing offers from high level teams.

Rankings (at least with rivals) seem to heavily factor in class size over average quality of the class.

Outside of the top 3 and the bottom 3, class quality doesn't seem to have much separation.

I would agree with you that we are recruiting better now than ever before.

I am not as caught up with the number of **'s a person has, but more with the list of schools that are recruiting, and or have offered.  That is where I am seeing the biggest difference.

I brought up the fact that we are still ranked towards the bottom of the B1G, not so much to be a debbie downer, as to try and point out that we still need to do better.  I do not think it is any coincidence that the teams in our conference that recruit the best also have the best results.

LOL. I was trying to figure out what cuss word the profanity filter took out there.

What do you guys think is the natural lag time between improved recruiting and seeing improved results on the field? Obviously it is a much slower process than basketball, where one 5-star kid can make a huge difference as a frosh.

I think 3-4 years is pretty legit unless there is serious roster churn. If that is the case, now is our time!

Stars is a cuss word...  So many people think stars are the end all be alls when it comes to recruits.  :)

I think your 3 -4 year target is probably right.  Heck we saw that play out last year from our offense.  Unfortunately, last year was really when we started to get some studs on defense, so I think we are still one year away from seeing a big jump on the defensive side of the ball.

I am hoping for enough of a little jump this year to be bowl bound, though.

3-4 years would seem to be logical at most schools, but I'm not sure it applies here. We went and got a great offensive mind in Wilson, and understandably he responded by focusing mainly on that aspect of the program. Consequently, I believe we may now have one of the best, if not THE best offense in the league, (and possibly one of the better ones in the nation). Our flashy offense is just now, after four years, beginning to pay nice dividends in terms of recruiting, and in my opinion it won't be just that side of the ball that sees the benefit. Last year's defensive class certainly has the potential to become good, perhaps very good, but I'd wager the best is still yet to come. I'd say give this team two more years, totaling six for Wilson, and we should begin seeing our Hoosiers beating a steady path to bowl games.
