Tracy Smith to ASU

Recommended Posts

I don't understand why McRobbie is the 6th highest paid at his position in the country (or CTC the 8th for that matter). Not sure if money was the key issue for Smith, but I don't know if IU baseball will continue to be as successful without him. If I was a betting person, I would say no.

This breaks my heart. Makes me concerned if we couldn't match the offer . I really thought being a lone big ten power in baseball was within our grasps. So mad, but not surprised that our administration personnel has been lacking common sense. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

This is like Indiana taking Tom Crean from Marquette. Marquette basketball = Indiana baseball, but Indiana basketball = Arizona State baseball.

It sucks for IU baseball, but c'mon... can't fault the man for advancing his career.

Arizona State... 3rd most CWS final appearances (10), 3rd most CWS titles (5 "banners"), 3rd most CWS wins (61), 20 Pac-12 titles, impressive list of alumni (Bonds, Reggie Jackson, Pedroia, Ethier, more).

They are Indiana basketball lol. The have 5 titles but the last one was in the 80s. They have had a lot of success since then, including a runner-up finish in 1998, but haven't broken through yet. Maybe Tracy Smith has what it takes to bring them back to the promised land.

Judging by the numbers, only Texas and USC are better jobs. Throw in LSU and Arizona and you have the top 5 most successful baseball programs in NCAA history.

there's a reason they call em the SunDevils...that dry heat will cook you like your Satan's shish-q-bob...

he will be missing this Ohio Valley humidity before you know it...

Does it really matter?  Both suck.  A hot humid day is h*** though, "it's not the heat, it's the humidity" as they say.

that was the joke...

actually...

some...

say...

the....

humidity...

is...

worse...

but I don't believe it.

I believe it to an extent, I live in an area that's humid and it is absolutely miserable.  Neither one is a pleasant alternative though, you either get baked or boiled.

there was a recent study done...and NO...I'm not searching the link...this isn't reddit...

that said that the Louisville area (Ohio Valley) is the absolute worst in terms of summer air...

worst humidity

worst pollen

worst allergens

worst overall breathing inhibitors

Tracy Smith won B1G titles for IU, got an amazing new stadium built, and had a whole bunch of players drafted into the majors, including multiple first rounders. To say the legacy he is leaving behind at IU surpasses that of his predecessors would be an understatement.

Be happy that he stayed as long as he did and realize that this is a business and he just got an enormous promotion. Money is not the only deciding factor when someone takes a new job, but you've got to think ASU had to cut a nice check to get him away from Bloomington.

This will never happen to IU basketball (or men's soccer), but all other programs are susceptible to more prestigious programs hiring coaches away. It's not stealing, it's business. You better believe that if Kevin Wilson strings together a few bowl games and a bigger program comes calling, he's gone in a heartbeat. The same way IU will pretty much have their pick of the litter whenever Tom Crean's job is open.

WindyCity brings up a great point...

as IU fans...we expect the very best...but that's not what our coaches expect...

they expect to leave the program in a better condition than they received...

sans basketball...IU isn't a great athletic program...unless you consider greatness being better than your predecessor...

right?

Humidity is worse because you can't escape it. The Denver sun bakes you but at 25% relative humidity you find the shade and it's quite pleasant. Dry heat > humid heat :)

If you're upset about this, look no further for reasons why this happened than this site. We have designated basketball and football threads, but baseball and soccer are lumped in the "Other" category. IU fans are basketball fans first and foremost. Basketball and football make the money at IU, not baseball.

Best of luck to Coach Smith. 'Twas fun.

Really sucks to see him go, didn't see this coming. Very upsetting, but hopefully IU can get someone that will keep IU at the top of the B1G like coach Smith did. Love baseball, just wish it was on TV more and when I could watch it.

Any idea who IU will target? I know it's early.

Can't wait to see what the Dust Devils paid him!!!!  Problem is IU doesn't have their **** together at all!!!  Wilson will be the next one.  Mark my words.  Make these guys an offer they can't refuse for hells sake.  Keep a fringin program going instead of always starting over.

I'm so pissed off I can't see straight!  Friggin McRobbie is 6th highest paid public University Pres in the country.  Friggin jerkoffs!!

Are you familiar with how jobs work? We offered him more money...he still left. Its a MUCH better job.

The only numbers that need to be looked at is $$$$$!!!  Money talks, BS walks....Simple as that.  Don't think he'd be going anywhere if IU dropped a $1mill. a year on  him.  Then program is cemented!

The clowns to the south do it.  And no way does that little school have the kind of bucks IU does...

IUPUI is bigger than UK !!!

There isn't one NCAA baseball coach making a million a year. Zero.
