Turnovers

I'm sure coach sat in practices and praised the players for turning it over so much.

Sent from my sarcastic iPhone using BrownBanners
But. Is it not the leadership's responsibility to correct it? Considering they are the players that THEY recruited. Maybe we got the wrong players or the system is flawed?

Not saying some of the blame doesn't go to the staff, it certainly does. I do remember a few games where Yogi was benched because he was pounding the rock too long. It's a maturity/unity issue.

I would take this team and work on drills that didn't involve a basketball or even on a court. The players need to trust that their teammates will make the right play. We lacked trust in a major way last season.

Sent from my sarcastic iPhone using BrownBanners
Cool. Anyone else besides Yogi? How many games did Troy Williams not start? I'm oldschool bootcamp and you earn that or take a seat. We lack discipline. Screw all the other stuff these kids tweet about.

There wasn't a game Williams didn't start IIRC, and it was frustrating because he was as awful as Jeremy for a large portion of the year.

He played better toward the end of the year, but for most of the season he was pretty bad. He actually had a higher turnover rate at one point too.

Troy has a much higher ceiling, and did far less sulking.

There weren't games where Troy didn't start but there were games where he was benched for most of the game. So Crean did in fact bench him for stupid mistakes

Take away that starting spot. That seems to be a guarantee around here. Ain't gonna cut it. Again, we lack discipline on a consistent basis.

Starting spot means nothing. It's a symbolic thing that only fans seem to care about. Players care about being on the court at end of games which numerous times Troy was not.

Players care more about who finishes the game than who starts the game. The point is that you all are wrong that Crean did not ever bench Troy. He did it frequently throughout the season.

Just curious for what game would you have taken Troy out of starting lineup and who would you insert? The fact that you all are just now with so much hindsight suggesting this really shows how it really wasn't ever necessary.

He was a freshman who just by how he plays the game is going to be prone to these mistakes. All young players go through this.

Players care about both. The reality is, most coaches default to just throwing their starters in at the end of the game and players know that. Most players spend the offseason talking about how they want to crack the starting lineup, from my days playing it's actually talked about more than discussing the end of the game, because you know if you're a starter then you'll probably be in at the end.

I didn't say anything about Troy.

The whole convo was actually about Troy which is why my point was made. Yes players care about both but to say Crean didn't discipline or bench Troy just because he started all games is disingenuous and false. There were multiple times Troy barely saw the court second half.
