i'm much more optimistic about this team in terms of confidence, relationships, maturity, and overall connecting with one another in comparison to last years team.  I really believe, IMO, that we could have been much better last year if everyone clicked better.  Our player's twitter accounts, pics, and conversations about the team have me believing that they are all working well together and if that's the case, we should definitely see that translate onto the court.

So for the millionth time, as I pondered our roster, I am disheartened. I love the guard potential. Love it! But going on Bball4iu report that April is as raw as we should expect, who backs up Hanner? Assuming Hanner will be good, which is sounding more promising, say he averages 28 minutes per game. Who plays 12 meaningful minutes. Devin Davis? He'll get crushed down low. April? He'll be outclassed by most big ten bigs. Who does that even leave as an option to play the 5? And if Hanner is a letdown or injured, we are completely doomed.

Am I missing an option? Someone make me feel better....

Why not play Hanner all 40 minutes? :)

Hope that the team is well conditioned and we can play small ball utilizing a lot of full court pressing to negate lack of a big presence in the paint on defense and get easy transition buckets. Assuming Hanner plays 28 minutes, it shouldn't be too much to ask that we can press effectively for 12 minutes.

Didn't I read on here that Devin grew an inch or two? Hopefully he bulks up and can hold his own in the paint. Maybe if we can't run a lot we can send 4 or 5 to rebound and pray we have an efficient half court offense.

Honestly, we know depth in the front court is going to a problem. Heres to hoping Crean can minimize it better than me

I think saying that Davis will get crushed guarding down low is a bit of a stretch. In my opinion he is a better rebounder and shot changer than he is an offensive threat.

Also, besides Hammons, who is going to be the big guy in the B1G next year? I could look it up but its a short work week and I am far too lazy to look it up. Seems to me that most of the good post players from last year are gone this year.

Anthony Lee will be good for OSU. Seems like Minnesota always has a decent foreign guy. Oh, and Frank Kaminsky from Wisonsin.

Yeah, there are plenty of BIGS that will give us problems.

If the "2 inch theory" is true for Devin Davis, he will be much more equipped than last year, but until I see it I will remain skeptical.

Last season, when he had to play under the basket, he gave up a number of easy layups.  He is tenacious on the boards, but his post defense was quite bad.

Also, the idea about pressing is good, but we don't have the depth to be a heavy/full pressing team.  Unless our endurance and stamina are incredible.  Plus, we would risk foul trouble which is also a bad philosophy with a short bench.

It's only a video, and the angles may have distorted things, so who knows, but I didn't think Davis looked two inches taller in that workout video going around. Could totally be wrong, just didn't think he looked it.

I measured; he is exactly 1 1/8" taller, but he was wearing a much cushier brand of socks than last year!
