A Major Step Toward Improving Our Outside Shooting

Recommended Posts

I betcha Devin Davis starts over StanRob/Rojo

I expect a lineup of Yogi/Blackmon/Robinson/Williams/either Hanner or Davis. Even if Davis starts over Robinson (Johnson won't be starting) that's a lineup of Yogi/Blackmon/Williams/Davis/Hanner, that still doesn't make me feel good about our defense. Hanner has a long ways to go and gets out of position way too easily on defense, Davis is undersized at either the 4 or 5, and IIRC Blackmon wasn't a great defender in high school. That's ignoring that there is more to being a good defensive team than just having 5 good on ball defenders.

I hope Troy has a solid long range game for next season.

As for out lack if defense. I feel it's being blown out of proportion. Looking at our schedule, there are very few teams with talented enough bigs to take advantage of our interior weaknesses. This team is easily a NCAA team. If not, Crean is out.

What is the goal for Troy by next season? I would say the two biggest weaknesses, on offense, for Troy would be a consistent jumper and losing the ball on dribble penetration. I want to see him turn these into positives by next season. He needs to be a respectable outside shooter where the defense has to close on him. This will also open up a lane if the defender closes out too hard. He also needs to attack a little under control. If he shoots 35%+ from outside he will have a good year. Being a respectable outside shooter will also allow him to slash and make cuts to the basket. I like 100 made threes a day.

Sent from my sarcastic iPhone using BrownBanners
I'm hoping Rob Johnson can beef up a bit and hopefully grow an inch or two. He'd be a good replacement for Sheehey, not as lengthy, but a better shooter and just as good a defender.

Rojo is gonna have to grow a good five inches to be as tall as Will Sheehey.

I think Rojo has a higher ceiling as a player than Sheehey. Shot makers are so important, as we learned last year.

And there is a sink hole in the post that could swallow 3 buses. IU is one dimensional again. Buckle up folks for another sub par season.

Being one dimesional in the post and being one dimesional with multiple outside shooters is apples to oranges imho, which isn't worth much. I think DD will be a junkyard dog in the post. He showed glimpses of it last year. Hanner's time has come, a lot is riding on him and that makes a lot of people, including me, nervous. We shall see. When you say sub par season I interpret that to mean we won't make the tournament which I disagree.

Yes, please read the rest of the thread, I made several more comments to that affect.

Yes, after you realized your error.

When I am reading a thread and a post makes me want to comment, I don't read through the rest of the thread to see if others commented the same or if the comment had been retracted, I just reply.

So, my comment addressed your comment at the moment I read it, not the moment after the reply before mine was posted.

I think we all, or at least the vast majority of us, comment that way. Was just letting you know that I made more comments to your point.

More of turning it over in general when he puts the ball on the floor. I agree his mind was going faster than his body. Just takes time and reps.

Sent from my sarcastic iPhone using BrownBanners
