Kj's replacement

Defensive X's & O's guy?  could be a nice compliment.

per wiki -
"Marist set a program record for fewest points allowed to a Division I opponent in a 57-35 win over Hartford, and also set a MAAC Tournament record for fewest points allowed in a 43-40 opening-round triumph over Iona.
"

not that the offensive points didn't stink to high heaven, but pretty impressive to hold a team to such few points anyways.

I threw a line out to the Marist message board, which is a pretty active place.  The first response:

"He will make a great assistant coach - he can recruit, did so at Memphis. He recruited a number of very good players at Marist but just didn't know what to with them once they got here, not an Xs and Os guys. He is better suited as an assistant the HC"

I really want to STAY in the national landscape as a great recruiting school.  I have enjoyed following recruiting so much the past 3 or 4 years.  I also want to get the good in state talent, but I want to have top ten classes like we have been.  IMO, that is necessary to grow the brand and be relevant today.  Granted, you can get lucky with under the radar talent, but top 50 type talent is where it is at for continued success.
Excellent hire. A guy with head coaching experience and experience under other coaches. He may have coached with Calipari, but I see that as a positive. Cal is a really good coach
I would have laughed at you last year regarding Cal but I now agree. Sure he has a lot of top talent but I was at a few games this year and watched him on the bench lay into these guys. He had a game in the tourney where the strategy was basically drive throw up a close shot that the bigs can rebound and score on the rebound. Then when the twins would jack an early outside shit he would yank them and get into their grill.

If another team started to rattle his team he was quick to use his TOs. He used a couple nearly back to back in a couple games. Then just his instruction during the games was more than I expected.
How does this address Indiana and the rest of the midwest? Can we not compete as well with the Big Ten powers and UK/Louisville there anymore?
We currently recruit Indiana harder than any other state. The East Coast has proven to be fruitful for our program. How does this imply that we can't compete for in-state recruits? Sent from my place of advanced, analytical thinking: the toilet.

It just seems like we are surrounded by stronger programs and its frustrating. As far as the east coast kids that KJ brought in, the fruit that they brought was a 17-15 season and a one and done who recruited negatively against his University.

That's just a really near-sighted way of looking at things. It's Troy, Stan, and Noah's fault alone that we were 17-15? Plus, Vonleh being honest isn't necessarily negative recruiting. It's letting someone know how is his time at IU went and we all saw that it wasn't great.

I think he has the potential to help immediately. His ties are strong in the NY/NJ area, specifically NYC. Typically this area is heavily recruited by Syracuse (UL as well) for top talent but they are pretty loaded at this point in '15. The '15 class may prove to be very important.

There are some very interesting prospects out this way in, both, '15 and '16.

Tough to really judge the hire, imo, as I don't know too much about the guy, but seems to be on the right track. I think we needed a kick in our step recruiting-wise and I hope he can provide that. \

For those who were looking for an X's and O's assistant...I don't think Crean would have listened to him.

Please don't try to discredit what they all have yet to accomplish. Don't forget Oladipo was also an East Coast recruit as well...
