OT: Buzz Williams to VT
He didn't do as well at Marquette as you think he did. He had that one year and that was about it, aside from that one year they were little more than decent for 8 of 9 years.

I'm going to bow out of this now before it this thread gets hijacked, but you should look at what they both did at Marquette and look at Crean's entire career there instead of picking out the only good year he had. Marquette was merely decent with Crean and Williams has done just as well at Marquette as Crean has done here.
I'm bowing out too. I think you are correct also. I guess, Crean got a lot of credit for building the program there. Perhaps, more credit than he should've?

He should of made that decision to begin with... You don't play non conference and then say hey "i don't like it here" and not honor your commitment to, not just I.U., but the TEAM he let down! Are you kidding me? Am I missing some sarcasm here?

I'd like to add that if Luke didn't like it here, he should at least of stuck out the season, And made that choice. Unless he had a family situation that required he be close to home? If it was just "homesickness", then he should have bucked up and road it out for the season!

I feel he does.  It's not like he took over a disaster there, they won 20 games 4 out of 5 years before he got there.  They didn't have tourney success, but they only had tourney success in 1 of Crean's 9 years and he followed his only good year with 2 straight NITs.  Their tourney success has actually been a little more consistent with Williams.  Crean improved them, but it's not to the extent people seem to think.

To get this thread back on track, Williams really hasn't struggled with his own players.  This is the first year they've struggled, but the previous 3 they were in the Sweet 16 minimum with one Elite 8 run with many or all of his own players.  He really didn't ride the coat tails of an inherited team ala Bruce Weber at UI or Mike Davis here.

He's 18 years old and moved far away from home for the first time in his life. He obviously didn't make his decision in one day. He probably decided it long before he made the decision and told the coaching staff. If he didn't enjoy attending Indiana then he has every right to up and leave whenever he pleases. It's his life, not yours. Wishing him ill-will because he wanted to be happy and do what was best for himself and his family is ridiculous.

I wish to him what I wish every kid who can't commit to what they promise... which is ownership of your obligations. He took up a scholaship that could have been used elsewhere and set this team back right at the start of the conference schedule. Do you realize how many young men would have liked to have had that scholaship? Don't come at me with this "Ill will" crap. He took a paid education at I.U. and tossed it. I hope he gets his degree wherever, and leads a sucsesful life. My dislike of his desision speaks for itsself without your better than thou "opinion".

First article I read said something akin to the situation in Marquette not being good...according to the William's folks. Going from a basketball school to Va. Tech not even a lateral move program wise, Buzz must have been very uncomfortable, but will feel much better cashing his paycheck, I am sure!

I'm guessing the downfall of the Big East had something to do with it too.

If Luke were to transfer back hypothetically, the NCAA may allow it without losing a full year. But since he is presumably enrolled at Marquette, he would probably not be eligible until after Christmas. I would take him back in a heartbeat but I'm afraid that bridge has been torched. On to Juco bigs or Lee for immediate help next year. No more center flyer chances like Guy Marc Michelle as these players should contribute yesterday.

I don't really see this being a great move for Buzz. I think Va. Tech would be a tough place to recruit to. As for Luke, I have a son that is a college freshman, playing basketball at a NAIA school. I was really worried about him being home sick when he started school. Luckily, he was fine, but if he had wanted to come closer to home I would have moved him closer. They are kids, and making big decisions in their young life. I don't blame Luke at all. This is an unfortunate situation, for him, though.
We will see how much he pumps up Va Tech when they get pounded by duke UNC Louisville Cuse and Pitt next year
I take this as a HUGE sign that Marquette is going to be on the struggle bus. Don't know why you'd want to take over a struggling program in the NEW ACC.
