Hoosiers jumping from ADIDAS to Jordan Brand??

Can't tell who said it because of some questionable formatting choices in the posts.  But pretty sure that IU basketball is indeed the money maker for IU athletics and not Football.  Pretty sure Glass has gone on record with saying that in fact.

Kinda. Basketball makes the most profit ($11,275,513), but football brings in the most revenue ($26,403,404 vs. $22,186,623).

The profit is the meaningful number because thats what they need to subsidize the other sports.  Most schools Football subsidize the other athletic teams.

Plus IIRC in order to get basketball season tickets for students they also had to buy football season tickets.  So if not for IU basketball, the football programs revenue would be smaller.

Right. I don't disagree, just giving numbers. Not sure how they split the revenue for student tickets between basketball and football, but you could be looking at a few million dollars difference if not for the combo pack we have to buy.

I think you're way discounting Cook Hall. Having walked through and gotten private tours of that facility our players have locker rooms, weight rooms, training facilities and film rooms that make them feel like superstars. Look at some quotes from recruits when they visit, look at some quotes from national reporters who have been everywhere, look at the fact that former players come back to work out there in the offseason, Cook Hall is a top 10 facility.

Once Assembly Hall is completed the University will have invested over $70 million in Cook Hall and Assembly Hall. In addition to that the entire academic center has refurbished in Memorial Stadium and it is an amazing space for the players. PLUS we have the Cuban Center which provides us with amazing technology that no one else has. It is an arms race for sure in college athletics that I agree with you on but if you think IU isn't flexing its muscles in that arms race you have not been paying attention and are out of touch.

. You're right! I didn't even think of the Cuban Center. I suppose I'm being a bit cynical towards the admin. after all these years of wallowing in mediocrity. When you consider all of the facility upgrades the past few years, along with what is coming, it does suggest that our admin is trying to be a player with the rest of the nations elite. My patience has just worn thin on seeing a perennial contender out of our Hoosiers. The Adidas deal frustrated me for the sole reason that I view Adidas as the least coolest brand in basketball. That, coupled with the fact that I haven't really developed a full understanding of the details of our upcoming improvements. Pardon the pessimism. I'm good for about 2-3 a month. Double that during basketball season. Triple that after a loss.

You don't want actual cream. See the bball alts from 2 years ago and the Sam Wyche Flying IU unis. Ugh

I remember Bill Mallory being asked about those uniforms - "I'm about creamed-out!"

Then he changed them back to the red and white. Much better!

The problem is, with being in the B1G the Bowl Sharing and TV deal for football make so much money for IU.  That is the area where the $26 million vs. $22 million gets blown out of the water.  It is always closer to $50 million overall due to the TV deal and Bowl profit sharing.  Unfortunately even for IU, football is where the money is if we discount donors.  Which we should never do, because I guarantee over 95% of the donors are donating in some way due to IU basketball

You make a great point. We are, in part, making a living off of OSU, Wisky, and Michigan. Its basically welfare and part of the reason why I don't expect much improvement overall in the football program. We don't HAVE to.

I don't disagree with the first part of your statement but I surely hope we haven't subscribed to the latter part and are content to be below average because it simply doesn't matter.  I don't expect us to ever become a football powerhouse but I do expect that we should be able to have consistent winning seasons and at least be a threat to the likes of OSU, etc.

IMO there is greater upside to being good at football rather than being content.  Look at OSU and UM.  Hell, even look at Wiscy, MSU, PSU, or Nebraska.  If you can even semi-regularly fill your stands you can bank.  If IU were decent consitstently their revenue would jump.  As on now I agree with Alford on this.  We are almost living on a B1G welfare system.  If we were decent, we could do a lot more.  I don't ever see IUBB spending too much more than they do now.  We are in the upper echelon there.  Football can use a few dollars.  Crean's recruting budget is larger than Wilsons.  Think about that one for a minute.  That is just insane to me.
