Tournament Team?

Recommended Posts

If the Hoosiers win out the rest of the season, is it too much to think that we could be a late entry for the tournament? Playing ranked teams such as Ohio State and Michigan and beating them along with a decent run in the B10 tournament I think would be enough to get us a low seed or at least make us a bubble team.

Thoughts?

I've kind of been thinking this. A win or 2 in the B1G tourney would definitely help. Ohio State doesn't count as a ranked team either because they'll be out as of Monday. We have to go 3 in a row against really tough teams to even have a shot though.

I guess that's true. But OSU is a tough team nonetheless, I almost wish it was an away game though because a win there would obviously be more valuable come Selection Sunday.

I was just looking at this today actually.  IU is currently 16-12 with 3 regular season games remaining.  Let's say they win 2 of those (Ohio State, Nebraska, @ Michigan).  That leaves us at 18-13 going into the Big Ten tourney.  I would assume we would need to win AT LEAST 2 games to get to 20-14.   A 20 win Big Ten team has a pretty good track record of making the tournament, but our non conference schedule was weak and we have some bad losses.

Key Wins:

  • #3 Wisconsin
  • #10 Michigan
  • #20 Iowa
  • #22 Ohio State ???
  • #16 Michigan ???

Also, assuming we win the first Big Ten Tournament game, we'd be slated against either #16 Michigan or #18 Michigan State or #14 Wisconsin depending on how the season ends.

We'd also go 7-3 over the last 10 games of the season.  It's possible... not highly likely, but our schedule would allow it with these top teams out there.  I can guarantee no other 20 win team would have wins over 6 top 25 teams.

Nope. IU's pre conference schedule is atrocious. No big road wins. The only thing those big home games to is keep IU out of the CBIT.

I thought 1 game over .500 in the B1G would do it. Needed to win out starting with Purdue. Well....

I'm sure I'm in the minority here, but I honestly believe this team would be better served in the NIT. They might be able to scrap together more than one win and help their confidence. If they get really hot though, they could be a dangerous low seed in the Dance. But that really depends on which IU team shows up

I agree with your logic, but as a fan, I'm selfish and want them in the dance 11 times out of 10 regardless of how it would improve their confidence.

No, for the simple fact that we will not win out. This team is not consistent enough to do that. We will have at least 1 or 2 more stinkers before the selection committee begins.

Agreed. I've run out of things to say about this team (hence the no posting for the past few days, I just KNOW y'all were worried) but the one thing that is for certain is inconsistency.

The thing is, I'm not so sure we would win a number of NIT games.

I'd by far rather go to the NCAA tourney this year, even if it is just for one game. The NIT is just a place of shame to me.

I agree.... We have just as good a chance at getting beat by Robert Morris in the first round of the NIT (at HOME) as we have of losing to a UCLA in the first round of the NCAA (If we were to get in we would play somebody of that caliber first)...

To me it is the NCAA Tournament or bust, I am sure the players would gain from playing in the NIT but there is a reason the Wisky fans were chanting NIT at us the other night, it is not a proud place to be!!!!
