(2016) C Thon Maker

Recommended Posts

But Marcus Lee has the potential to be very good and he showed flashes of it during UK's run last year. Doesn't get enough minutes at UK so his stats don't look very good.

Get's the same minutes as Emmit Holt, however, he doesn't score as well or rebound better.

yup, this right here.

Call me crazy, but atm I would take a Marcus Lee in his 3rd year over a Thon Maker.  Despite Thon's tremendous raw talent, i think he will struggle adjusting to the level of competition against decent power conference schools. I base this on his struggles adjusting to better highschool and aau competition recently.

There's also the possibility of Thon having eligibility and potential rule-breaking issues with his shady handlers :(.

he defends well by being long xD. The few games I've seen him come in, he's usually good for a block on defense almost immediately.

Thon Maker stands at seven-feet tall with a seven-foot-two wingspan, and he only just turned 18. In terms of being revolutionary, it is rare to find a player of his size and length with the type of athleticism and skill set that he brings. Described as an “unusual” shooting touch, Maker’s skills stand out from those of his size, and his ceiling for potential is still rising.

Maker put up similar numbers to Simmons for his high school team in his sophomore year, averaging the most points, rebounds and blocks, and coming third in assists and steals. Maker was even called the “7-foot Kevin Durant-Chris Paul combo”; a bit rap considering the level these two play at..

Thon Maker is also making a name for himself in high school basketball. The 7’1” prodigy is rated the number five prospect of 2015 by rivals.com (Simmons sits at number one).

In his 2013-14-sophomore season, Maker averaged an astounding 21.3 points, 13.3 rebounds and 4.2 blocks per game over 30 matches. At this stage, he is the clear number one draft pick for 2017.

Both Simmons and Maker will play on the World squad at the Nike Hoop Summit on April 11, 2015.

That World Summit game will be SUPER entertaining this year. Ive watched bits of pieces of it in the past but I plan on watching the majority of it this year (it turns into a boring dunkfest after awhile). The world team with Thon, Ben Simmons, Jamaal Murray, amongst others, will be really entertaining

Sounds a lot like Holt.

Lee 406 minutes 27 blocks. .8 per

Holt 332 minutes 21 blocks .7 per

Hopefully Holt will progress defensively by his sophomore year.

EDIT: ok bnkepner

I can see the 2nd part of your 2nd paragraph. That's a lot of the way Hanner was, with under performing against good high school teams.

As long as IU runs an offense where a 5 star big has to get his points off rebounds and running out on the break its gonna be slim pickins for IU. Cal features these guys and that is what these 5 stars like Maker want. If Crean wasnt so arrogant and would change his style a little bit I think we land a Bryant or Maker consistently.

Edit: Seems like the perfect time to hire an assistant that can help implement an offense to feature a big man. Makes sense, right?
