Been in a foul mood all day. So, courtesy of divine providence what hit’s my feed this afternoon but probably my favorite live tv performance ever. So primal and kinetic. The no bull$hit spirit of rock and roll. God, I’d love to see these guys do this live. That they don’t have a live album is a crime.

I am floored by this. A new Libertines album for the 1st time in gotta be 10 years. I just assumed one of those dudes would have killed the other ages ago. Always liked them. Their best music is terrific, though the range of outcomes was always pretty wide. Haven’t listened to it yet, but really happy that they’re still alive and kicking.

Have not suddenly evolved into a lover of classical. Admire, do not love. But this bit of info hit me last night and I just can’t get my mind around it. It’s my understanding that Sergei Prokofiev was one of the great composers/musicians/conductors of the 20th century and that that’s not opinion. It’s considered objectively true. But he was also a serious amateur chess player. Not just serious, grandmaster-level good. During his life, Prokofiev won games against Alexander Alekhine, Jose Raul Capablanca and Mikhail Botvinnik. If you know, you know. If not, those are 3 world champions. Historically great players. Some will argue Capablanca is the greatest player ever. This floors me. Yeah, there’s probably some overlap in mental-processing there, but are you kidding me? The dispersal of genius should be more democratic than this. 1 dude should not have been able to do both of those things. SMH. Oh, and he composed the piano concerto above, which is pretty good.

The first cassette I ever bought for $4.99 in high school 1977.  Then Bachman Turner Overdrive, Not Fragile album was next.

^^ I played lead guitar in a middle school band, we played Boston's More Than a Feeling and Foghat's Slow Ride and once in a talent show at BHSN, and got a standing ovation -- lol, as a middle schooler that was really cool

Spectacular find this week looking for artists I didn’t know. Adia Victoria is a blues/roots/Americana/little bit of everything artist from South Carolina. Listened to her ‘21 album A Southern Gothic and it is fantastic. Apparently spends more time writing poetry than making music and I can see that. She writes great, great stories in her music. Picked the one above, which is not actually 1 of my favorites, solely for the lyric, “I got it in me to burst into flames. Let the whole world burn. Let the ashes rain” Damn

To bad about that band.  Damn, they were the best.  Saw them at Freedom Hall in Louisville fall of 1976.

RIP to Steve Albini. Not a huge name, but if you were into grunge or alternative from the the late 80’s through very recently you’ve liked work he’s produced. Best known album was Nirvana’s In Utero. Also did The Pixies’ Surfer Rosa and albums by The Breeders, Urge Overkill, PJ Harvey, The Fleshtones and about a million other acts over 30 years. This cut is from a criminally underappreciated British grunge album called Seamonsters by The Wedding Present. They were a pretty conventional almost popish band until Albini got hold of them and produced this record. Love it. If you’re into grunge and don’t know this album, you’re welcome.

Keep coming back to trying to put together a top 15 all time rock tunes (can’t just do 10 not enough) the ones I keep coming back to and never get old for me, the ones that I can’t help singing along with in the car, force themselves from background sound to getting my attention, doesn’t really matter what time of day it is. when thinking about the songs I try not to overvalue the band (like how could I not have have at least 1 Stones tune in it - I do though I keep switching out which one), or undervalue the song bc the band wasn’t one of the heavyweights.

Starting out just have 2 right now —

Come Together (Beatles)

Roxanne (Police, but damn what a tune, and when Sting first started it, it was a ballad)

I obviously am in the minority here….but I can’t stand Boston.  Think they are really vanilla.  I was in college when Third Stage was released and still can hear songs like ****in’ Amanda getting played from dorm rooms while I walk down the hall.

Stones, Beatles, Rush, The Who….i’m there with you.  But Boston?  Ugh.  
 

Flame away, but it’s not going to change my mind on them.

Younger generation, but huge classic rock fan here and totally agree. Boston stinks.
