Huge soccer fan and very upset about our group. Although it'll be tough, with the way we're playing of late, it's possible. The World Cup is always fun no matter what though!

I don't like soccer but I've got a friend from Brazil so I've watched it a few times. It's just too slow and boring to me. Granted these are arguably the best conditioned athletes in the world. With that said I'll end up watching a USA match or two.

USA got a break opening against the weakest member of the group, get three points there and pray Portugal and Germany wear each other out. Netherlands vs Spain will be huge to kick off that group. Poor Australia got the worst possible draw.... Netherlands Spain and chile. The socceroos will be lucky to get a point in group stage.

The silver lining with our group is that there aren't any South American nations in the group, so there won't be a decided disadvantage in at least one of the games. The USA's best World Cups have been away from Europe, so I'm hoping to see the US get in the group stage and then anything can happen.

Generally speaking the World Cup is a little more fast paced and the overall intensity is up a little bit. Soccer in general I get what you are saying, tried watching a few other international tournaments and couldn't stand it. Too many guys choosing to sit out, because it wasn't the World Cup, and there wasn't quite the same level of intensity.

http://www.cbssports.com/world-cup/eye-on-world-cup/24559694/world-cup-klinsmann-names-preliminary-usmnt-30-man-roster

U.S. Men's National Team coach Jurgen Klinsmann announced his provisional 30-man roster on Monday afternoon, which will ultimately be trimmed to 23 players by June 2, ahead of next month's World Cup.

The team then has three pre-tournament friendlies before kicking off against Ghana on June 16. Klinsmann will use the camp along with two of three exhibitions (the final tune-up against Nigeria is June 7th, after FIFA mandates rosters be finalized) to determine the final roster. Speaking of, here are the 30 players vying for 23 spots in Brazil.

Goalkeepers: Tim Howard, Brad Guzan, Nick Rimando

Defenders: DaMarcus Beasley, Matt Besler, John Brooks, Geoff Cameron, Timmy Chandler, Brad Evans, Omar Gonzalez, Clarence Goodson, Fabian Johnson, Michael Parkhurst, DeAndre Yedlin

Midfielders: Kyle Beckerman, Alejandro Bedoya, Michael Bradley, Joe Corona, Brad Davis, Mix Diskerud, Maurice Edu, Julian Green, Jermaine Jones, Graham Zusi

Forwards: Jozy Altidore, Terrence Boyd, Clint Dempsey, Landon Donovan, Aron Johannsson, Chris Wondolowski

There have been several players that have been mainstays in Europe; Tim Howard has been a starting keeper in the EPL for about 10 years for one. To my memory, there hasn't been an American player that has been a starter on a European team that has had a chance at winning the Champions League or a major domestic title. The closest was Claudio Reyna when he played for Rangers in Scotland (then a 2nd tier country) and they won SPL titles and competed in the Champions League.

This team has the makings of the 2002 team. The draw sucks, but if they can get 3 PTS from their first game vs Ghana (which is going to be insanely difficult) and another upset win or draw, maybe vs Portugal, they should be able to advance.. The US has looked strong as of late. I think they have a fighters chance to make it to the knockout round.

Clint Dempsey had a great career over in the Premier League with Fulham.

Yes u are right about Howard. Also Friedel and Guzan. Just thinking of of non goalies . Dempsey had a couple good years in Fulham but he was never a hot commodity. If I recall correctly no big teams wanted him during the transfer window( though did get a small whiff from Liverpool).

If anything I thought Stuart Holden could have been great if not for the injuries. Bob Bradley could break out with a great World Cup.
