Admittedly, I don't follow IU wrestling as much as I'd like.  Is this a good thing?

I think so. Young guy, won an NCAA championship here as a player, was associate head coach here last year, seems like good timing with the new facilities.

I can say there is no sport in the world more than wrestling I like less so there is no IU program I pay less attention to. With that said I know they have struggled more than any other program recently and I am sure the 'retirement" was forced much like with Bob Morgan in baseball many years ago. We can only hope the wrestling program has the same renaissance the baseball program had as soon as a mediocre been here to long coach went away. It took Tracy Smith 3 years, but since Morgan has left baseball went from being an after thought to being what I would argue has been the second best sport performance wise after soccer the last 10-12 years in department. I have no idea what will happen with wrestling and I can certainly promise you I won't follow it but I hope IU has the same wrestling turn around once it changed a past his prime coach that baseball has had.

Also I met Angel Escobedo one time when we were students (and he pronounces it Ang-el the american way and not An-hel despite being Latino and that is straight from his mouth) and he seemed nice as he and I had a class together. Curious to see how arguably our greatest wrestler in history does as our coach. He has the programs last individual national championship in 08 as a player so maybe now he can get the team one as a coach.

Angel is a great hire. Great for IU. He has great ties with coaches and will recruit the way Iu should have been recruiting. Hopefully the Goldman family will continue to donate some $$ to IU.  Big ten is hard to compete for in wrestling, but give home 2-3 years to get some better talent in the door and we will be back to top 25 rankings like the early to mid 2000s
