(2017) SF Kris Wilkes to UCLA

Recommended Posts

I think OG will have a better year this year than last year but he will be back for his junior year. He was not a marked man at all last year and was able to surprise a lot of us. But the gap between that and getting drafted in the lottery (why go if not) is very big.

I would still be very pleased if he can become a 10 and 6 guy but I am not sure that gets you into the lottery.

I've read somethings on here and around the interwebs that have crowned him already.  I don't think he reaches that level but think he could get drafted off a mix of a good season and measurables.  I have zero say in it but I don't think it's a done deal as some do.  I also hope that it's a decision he gets to make, one way or the other.

Yeah, Lottery talk seems pretty optimistic. Best case for me is OG pulls TB and has a very good year, but decides to return anyway and pairs with Wilkes the next year.

I mean, OG did come out of nowhere playing great D and doing the little things in offense. However, it seems a long way from that to lottery. If you look at the per 40 during conference play an injured JMo was neck and neck with him. I guess a lot of the talk with OG is measureables too.

I hope like heck that OG meets the fans and writers expectations. He certainly showed flashes. But he played under 15 MPG. He has the potential.

This is how I have felt as well.  I'm high on OG but don't expect him to be the next big name in the NBA  . He has the body, the IQ, and the work ethic to be a stud.. I just think some of the hype is a little over the top for 15 mpg, but I wouldn't trade him for any other kid out there.

I think the hype around OG being a possible lottery pick or mid-first round pick has to do with the bits and pieces he showed last year combined with his physical gifts. There were simply things he did last year that hardly anyone in the country could do (the steals/dunks/blocks on Jamal Murray/etc.). Add his megatron-like build and another off-season to work plus a higher level of confidence and we are looking a truly unique and potentially special player.

Back to Wilkes....I feel pretty confident with this one. Xavier is a head-scratcher but still like our position. The prospect of Wilkes and OG playing together is just peachy to me...lesssdoit!

Agree with a lot of what you say about OG but he'll need to show he can live up to the hype. That dunk in the tourney where he was still going up when he threw it down was sick. It was one of many moments you described earlier.

That would be crazy. My ideal perception of IU is three and degree with some one and dones thrown in too.

Right. I remember seeing an article on ESPN I think that described Giannis Antetokounmpo's measurements and other than height I'm pretty confident OG would measure around the same as him (article link: http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/14927328/milwaukee-bucks-f-giannis-antetokounmpo-nba-most-exceptional-body). The point being that body/potential can sometimes trump college stats when looking at draft status.

My feeling is that Kris wants to stay closer to home based on what I've read. I could see how LA would be very appealing as an 18 year old kid and can't blame him for considering it but IU's current program and player development certainly is in a better state than UCLA's (pronounced UCK-LUH). The whole thing seems pretty up in the air at this point but I like where we sit for now.

I like how it's like 50/50 OG/Wilkes but should get back on topic.

I agree we have as good a shot as anyone. I'm sure Kris understand that player development. I also think he knows he'll start from day one even if OG stays and JMo develops. He'll have several veteran guards who can and will get him the ball. RoJo plays a similar game to Hartman in terms of deferring and then picking his spots to score.

Wilkes + elite pg + serviceable big for 2017. (And a junior OG)

Lost another pick on crystal ball while UCLA picked up one. Hmm surprised there's so much love for them.

7 "experts" have predicted where Wilkes will commit.

UCLA: votes by a pukie and a dookie, some recruiting site and Meyer
I believe Meyer said he had no idea where he was going but it wasn't IU.

IU: Bozich and some recruiting site

Foggy: some other puke

Moral of the story: I believe the people who post on here that have gotten a lot of things correct or have the inside info over those predicting in the CB. That goes both ways. The recruits were supposed to land and are supposed to go elsewhere.

My personal thought is it would be tough for Wilkes to go so far away for the few years he'll play college ball.
