(2017) PG Paul Scruggs to Xavier

Recommended Posts

Albers tweet. Multiple sources tell me Paul Scruggs is very likely to end up at Xavier and that Chris Mack expects to get him.

Reply. Coach Simpson... Paul Scruggs has NOT committed to anyone.. Don't put something out there you don't know anything about..

Albers reply....@CoachKSimpson Nobody said he committed anywhere.

Albers continues to rub people the wrong way. Dude really needs to give it up and do something else.

He loves breaking stories. I love stories getting broken. No skin off my back. Good for us fans. Not so good for those trying to withhold news.

He definitely does piss people off though. Lol

I don't know man. I like stories broken but he seems to play things fast and loose. It would be a different story if you're breaking stories on adults in the NBA. He just seems to be a ****** and tries to steal the spotlight from these kids sometimes.

Fully agree. Not classy at all. I like the scoop though.

If you had to handicap it what % or chances would you give IU? Will the official boost the chances or has he had the red carpet on other visits?

I mean, no doubt the buzz is he is leaning Xavier. IU has an obstacle of playing time they can't really get past. But, to say it's a done deal, is pretty irresponsible of a journalist. I'm not even willing to say that and I'm posting on a forum. Albers seems to report things as breaking news when he thinks he has a layup. OV's change things. Xavier had a commit last night. I don't see it impacting Scruggs decision, but point is things change. I guess 35/65? Everyone and their sister is saying Xavier...which gives me a slight pause

We shouldn't lose to Xavier for the best Indiana kids! Sad if true.

We can't guarantee him starting at PG if Mack is willing to its no wonder why he's leaning there. As painful as that is for me to say

We just have to hope that this means Newkirk is really working out and will be a great senior asset in 17.  And we can try and sell a 5 star stud PG in 18

Our chances at Langford should go up if we miss on Scruggs.

This. Unfortunately, IU isn't in the position to offer whatever Duke, Kansas, puke, etc. are offering recruits to play less minutes or sit behind upperclassmen. This would be a huge step in the "IU back to relevance" ladder to being in solid recruits to sit behind seniors before taking over.

If Scruggs is willing to play 10-15 minutes as a frosh I'd imagine he would be given the keys as a sophomore. I don't think PG duties are an issue as Crean would prefer having both guards able to handle, shoot, and be interchangeable.

Why should we have to guarantee him a starting position?   He should be good enough to earn that spot with a little time and hard work.

I agree to an extent but if all guards stay (I don't believe they will) he'll have a to of experienced competition. Who would he beat out straightaway.

Senior: Newkirk, RoJo, JBJ

Sophomore : CuJo, Green

I would say at best he's getting the fourth most playing time behind the three seniors. However, if he can take a back seat for one year CuJo, Scruggs, Durham, Green and a solid 2017 PG would be a top backcourt in the B1G and nation from 2018 on.

And he would but if you had 2 job offers 1 was for your dream job and another for one tier below your dream job which one is going to be more appealing to you?

Xavier's guards for 2017-2018

Seniors:  Trevon Bluiett (30.6 mpg), Larry Austin, Jr. (10.1 mpg), J.P. Macura (22.7 mpg)

Juniors:  Ashanti Burgess (1.0 mpg), Edmund Sumner (25.9 mpg)

Sophomores:  Quentin Goodin

Freshman:  Naji Marshall (6-6, SF, 4*), Elias Harden (6-5, SG, 4*), Jared Ridder (6-5, SF, 3*)

Other possible 2017 recruits:  Jermaine Samuels (6-6, SF, 4*) (CB 57% X)

Just a list, like everything else with recruiting and rosters it's fluid.  If he's looking strictly at playing time as a frosh Xavier looks to have a similar guard roster as IU with three seniors getting time and a few talented underclassmen.  Excluding the minutes Goodin and Marshall will get the rest of the guards exceeded the 80 mpg for guards.  I didn't watch a ton of Xavier games last year so I don't know if they run threes guard lineups but I did see Bluiett as a third guard when I watched.  I'm not sure if Bluiett or Sumner will jump to the NBA early either.  If JBJ leaves early then we will most likely have more PT available than Xavier.
