Ahh yes the ebbs and flow of college basketball.

This is why our fanbase sucks ^^

The ebbs and flow of a basketball season should not include a long stretch where the team barely looks like they know basketball. Excusing that is why we keep giving 4 or more years to coaches who can’t cut it.

Devries was not doing a good job. He constructed a faulty roster and then wasn’t winning with it.  He’s winning now.  Winning sure does cure a lot. But context on how the team looks and performs matters.

You shouldn’t blow 16 point leads at home. You shouldnt get ran off the court in all your quality OoC games.  The fact that people have been willing to accept that as totally normal Is how you get Mike Woodson year 4 instead of May year 1.

Probably not but it’s part of it.  I’ve seen better programs then IUs basketball program right now blow 16 + leads at home and lose and some get blowed out in their quality non con games.   It happens.

I was responding to a claim that our fanbase sucks.

Im simply saying it’s okay to have standards and not just be happy to get a participation trophy.

If only the fans had wanted Woodson out after year 3. We really blew it.

There was nothing close to the upheaval necessary to give Dolson what he needed to make a move. The average fans saw two tourney bids and didn’t see that it was inspite of terrible coaching.

I would be very curious what fanbases those are. But I would also say that if the fanbase in question had a first year coach then those fans would have every right to be frustrated and skeptical

Just this year  Tennessee blew a 17 point lead to Kentucky at home, Virginia blew a 16 point lead at home to North Carolina with a first year head coach.   It’s part of college basketball and especially now days with the importance of the 3 point shot.   Double digit leads evaporate quickly nowadays

Virginia is 18-3 though.  That’s not the same as a loss that puts you on the wrong side of the bubble.

And Tenn has a couple of very impressive non con wins.

It’s not that the thing happened. It’s that all the bad things were happening at once. 0 quality non con wins. Losing winnable conference games. Blowing big leads at home. If the ship is righted that’s great. And is impressive but it’s only impressive because jt was very bad before

It is the same.  It college basketball it’s going to happen regardless if your team you are invested in is on the bubble, off the bubble or safely in your team is going to blow a lead at some point.

Nobody is happy with a "participation trophy" just because they acknowledge this is real life college basketball and not a video game where you can just quit and start over if things don't go your way. It's not sacrificing standards to acknowledge that success is not always linear and it's a long season. Thats all.

People are reactionary in general. 4 game skid, fire everyone. 3 game win streak, everything's hunky dorey... no... more likely, things are never as good or bad as they seem. Hope they can keep the hot streak rolling and leave LA with 2 wins.

Or it’s just part of being college basketball.  Some teams get better while others regress

Agreed. But with a flawed roster and thru 19 games nothing really impressive of note it’s understandable that fans are going to be frustrated.

Michigan, Iowa and Virginia are all teams who have had less painful coaching transitions in the last 15 months and a large part of our fanbase wanted a few of those coaches there is gonna be discontent.

Other then the head to head win Iowa is around the same as IU as of today.  IU has a better SOS and more Q1 wins.  Iowa is road loss tonight at Oregon away being 5-5 in the league

IU had a bad 2 week stretch earlier in the season. If we fired coaches after every 2 week lull there would be no more college basketball coaches left to fire.

Is this your first year watching the sport?

We are now after the recovery of the last 10 days.  But when this topic was made we felt to be in very different spots

Being frustrated is one thing, declaring DeVries dead less than 20 games in is another….and ridiculous at that.

We did not hav a bad 2 week stretch. We had no good wins till Purdue we were on the wrong side of the bubble until we beat them. If you have to misrepresent where we were as a program I don’t think whatever point you are trying to make has any merit.

We constructed a flawed roster and the. Proceeded to not win.  Obviously if you start winning things are different.

People said woody was a disaster before the ink was dry on his contract they were as right then as they were 4 years later.
