iu eyedoc Posted November 9, 2025 Posted November 9, 2025 On 3rd and 11 with 4 minutes left IU took a delay of game. I would love to know if Cignetti purposefully didn't burn a time out in the moment to save the 5 yards, calculating the unlikelihood of marking the 1st down and the more likely need for the time out on PSU's possession. That became a pivotal non use of that time out, saving 40 seconds. IU scored with 36 seconds left. Was it lucky mistake or next next level clock management? ALASKA HOOSIER 1 Quote
Dillion Posted November 9, 2025 Posted November 9, 2025 I thought they took the delay of game penalty to give the kicker a yardage he was more comfortable with to try and pin them as deep as possible. But admittedly I’m a die hard basketball guy and not a huge football guy so I could be wrong. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
RaceToTheTop Posted November 9, 2025 Posted November 9, 2025 I think he felt the time out was better to keep. realTomCrean and ALASKA HOOSIER 2 Quote
Hovadipo Posted November 9, 2025 Posted November 9, 2025 Also think he was saving that time out. I don’t think we were far enough up the field to worry about the punter getting his number. Either way it turned out to be the right decision. Lebowski and ALASKA HOOSIER 2 Quote
LIHoosier Posted November 9, 2025 Posted November 9, 2025 On radio, Buck said that Cig was talking to someone that was a gunner close to the sideline and that precipitated the officials holding the snap so PSU could substitute so it may have been accidental. Quote

That makes no sense. If the officials are holding the snap for substitution, how can that be a delay on the offense? Quote

I was confused at the time but that's what the radio booth surmised. Quote

Yeah I was thinking this (save time outs) when it happened. Quote
iu2win Posted November 10, 2025 Posted November 10, 2025 Also, are the refs not supposed to run over and stand in front of the ball to allow subs to happen? If that is the case, it was not on IU to wait when there was no ref present; so QB calls for the snap and then the refs realize they messed up. Quote
