Feels like a very late offer for a kid who’s been near the top of his class for a couple of cycles. But Kenny Johnson is  a Team Takeover guy and obviously thinks he can get a visit.

Kenny Johnson is the lead. He was previously recruiting him for GT.

He talks a lot about style of playing being one of the most important factors. Wants to play fast.

The reason he wants to wait until next spring to commit is that he wants to have the opportunity to play immediately so he wants to see how teams look after the transfer cycle.

I hope we return all 5 players that have the eligibility to return. I believe in our assistants ability to get the guys. I believe in DD as a closer. Smith would the equivalent of Coach K landing Johnny Dawkins. He would change everything on both sides of the ball.

Smith started again today and the USA defeated France 108-77.  He played 17 minutes and scored 7p;  2r;  3a;  3s;  1b;  1t.    3-6 FG;  0-2 on 3s;  1-2 FT.

Teams are off on Monday and the U.S. will play Cameroon on Tuesday.

And doing it as the youngest player on the team.

After cruising through the early games, the USA U19 squad had its hands full with Canada in today's quarterfinal game pulling out a 108-102 win.  Smith played 24 minutes and had this stat line:

14p  /  5r  /  2a  /  1s  /  1b  / 0t        5-10 FG  /  2-3 on 3s  /  2-4 FT

In 5 games he's had 9 assists against just 3 turnovers.  Tomorrow's semifinal opponent is still to be determined.

ADDED:  Saturday opponent is New Zealand.

Pretty ho hum semifinal game.  USA led by 18 after 1 Q and it only got worse from there.  Final score 120-61 and the USA plays Germany on Sunday in the gold medal game.  Smith again started and played 13 min.

7p  /  3r  /  1a  /  0s  /  0b  /  1t          2-3 FG  /  1-1 on 3s  /  2-2 FT

Sam Vecenie -

I'm not totally sure what Jordan Smith Jr. is as a prospect yet, but he's definitely my favorite player on this U19 USA team. What a fun athlete who seems to be about all of the right things in terms of playing winning basketball.

Agree with that assessment 100%. As a pro prospect he’s kind of funky. A 6’1”-6’2” scoring guard without a great handle is not exactly a prototype, even with his length and explosiveness. But, man, he’s plays so hard and he’s so efficient and he’s a grown-a$$ man physically that I think he’ll be a monster in college and despite his class rating I don’t think it would be completely shocking if he played more than 1 year.

I watched some of the USA vs New Zealand and my takeaway was damn Daniel Jacobson is going to be good for Purdue.
Love Jordan Smith though.

Mikel Brown for UL is legit too. Louisville backcourt is crazy.

Mayer for Purdue was a masterful pickup as well. Kid can shoot.

This might be me just being a hater but, while I do believe all these young athletes are great in their own being, the international teams are teams we expect our USA to beat up on. It’s encouraging to see it happen, but when I see national cbb media members saying things along the lines of “brown may be the best pg in cbb next year” I tend to think everyone should pump the breaks a little bit. All of that being said if any of the standouts were IUBB commits I would be hyping them up too haha
