Class of '66 Old Fart

IUBB @ Nebraska - Friday, 12.13.24 @ 8:00 ET on Fox TV

Recommended Posts

From one of the betting sites. So basic, yet still lost on Woodson. How, I have no idea.

"Indiana still has some offensive concerns, particularly in the shooting and turnover departments. Although the Hoosiers shot 35% from 3, they attempt treys on just 29% of their field goal attempts.

The lack of perimeter jumpers allows defenses to sag off Malik Reneau on the perimeter. Also, Oumar Ballo is a total non-shooter, so teams will dare Indiana to launch from deep....

Still, Mackenzie Mgbako is the lone shooter who instills fear in opposing defenses. Mgbako is a very dynamic offensive weapon who shoots 51% from the floor and 43% from 3.

While starting guards Myles Rice and Trey Galloway shoot good percentages from downtown, both launch 2.4 3s or fewer per game. That isn't enough to scare defenses."

This falls into the category of "duh".

How Woodson can continue to run the same stupidly limited perimeter offense is mind boggling.

Nebraska favored 3.5, and yes, this is IU's first true road game

This is a big game. Due to our weak ooc wins I think we need 12 BT wins to slide into the tourney and 13 will comfortably get us in. To get to those numbers we need at least 4 road wins. Below are our BT road games. Lose tonight and I won’t be surprised if we only get 1-2 road wins.
Road games are:

Nebraska, PSU (at the Palestra),  Iowa, OSU, Northwestern, Purdue, Wisconsin, MSU, UW, Oregon

Despite our overwhelming talent in comparison to Nebraska's, I expect a big loss. Why? Because Hoiberg employs a modern style of offense - including shooting multiple 3 pointers - in comparison to our stone age offense...that's a lot of overcome. 3 points > 2 points. Also, Nebraska will play hard for the full 40 minutes, we almost assuredly won't. These will more than make up the large disparity of talent that favors us.  Again, 3 points > 2...it's why we've been blownout an ungodly amount of times with Woodson as coach...when teams start draining 3's, it starts snowballing. Even when we make our baskets, we're still losing every possession.

Another food for thought...outside of Northwestern and Syracuse, no other team attempts less 3 pointers that us...however, we attempt just about more long 2's than anyone else (approximately 5 per game). Why not step back a foot and make those long two point attempts 3 point attempts? Seems like an easy fix...yet it hasn't been fixed for 4 years.

Remember with our mult-million dollar roster and talent that anything less than a 4 seed and second weekend appearance would be a failure for this year's talented team? Now we're talking about how to just squeeze into the tournament. LOL. The CMW impact of leading a college bball team in the modern era of college ball.

The talent gap is massive. Woodson has way more talent bur runs an outdated offensen

yeah.  There's another thread for this, but WTF.  When is it "OK" to be an underdog against freaking Nebraska?  Here's hopping they gut it out.

There was no reason for a weak non conference schedule. Woodson could have scheduled tougher teams but he choose not to and we have zero quality wins so far.

MSU beat them pretty handily, a lot of it was out hustling them. MSU had the athletic advantage we have, if we don’t shoot ourselves in the foot we ~should~ be okay. That being said that’s a lot easier said than done with Woodson led teams. I have a false confidence in tonight for whatever reason & I’m hoping to not be brought back down to earth at 8pm haha

I think the rebounding emphasis might be the most important part of tonight’s game. They’re gonna run and get shots up. If they are getting multiple chances and clean kick outs for open threes we’re dead.

i liked how we looked rebounding the last two games though. I think a focus has been put on it lately and I think we pull this one out.

The schedule really doesn't get hard til mid January. Not sure a game vs a likely bottom half big ten team tells us the trajectory of the season. Playing the likes of teams like michigan and purdue will.

It can alter it with a loss! We are the underdog by 4 and a half points. We win it will be a pretty good darn win. If we get run off the floor it will be a terrible sign. We have done some good things since the Bahamas but we haven't played anyone. Time to show tonight what we have learned. The road in the big 10 is never easy

Every conference game matters.  Winnable conference games matter.

Every conference game tells us where we are as a team.

Win a road game in this conference...and that is a big deal.

Lose it, and then start think of the NIT.

I don't know about make-or-break games with this team.  Win this game, and we are making progress.  Lose this game and something is definitely broken.

Lose it and they will break Woody's contract at the end of the season...as if there is any chance of him staying...unless he pulls a rabbit out of his hat...like a sweet 16 win.

Seems improbable...but not impossible.

If we lose close in a tough, hard fought game, and on the road, it's not a big deal.

If we lose badly and look bad doing it? Much bigger sign.

I think we agree on the vast majority of things when it comes to IUBB right now, but I mean, what are we even talking about at this point? Lol…

Losing to Nebraska in basketball should always be a big deal for IUBB. Whether it’s close or a blow out doesn’t really matter IMO.

Guess I’m just so over Woodson I’ve already made peace with this year not amounting to much. Don’t see how you salvage it in any scenario that includes losing to Nebraska, regardless of it being on the road or at home. This is one of the easiest B10 games on the schedule… we should win and look good doing it. Anything less is pretty unsatisfying, though to be expected…
