NCAA Women's Bball Transfer Portal

When I look at Twitter every now and then, I see plenty of movement in the women's portal -- but nothing from Bloomington.

We have a good core returning and some nice freshmen coming in, but IMO -- we could use a couple experienced players. Maybe a big and a shooter. Trying to replace Mack and Sara will be no easy task.

It seems the IU staff likes to keep things close to the vest when it comes to recruiting, but jeez -- it's getting kinda disappointing to see player after player enter the portal, and player after player commit to a new school and none of it involves us.

I've really enjoyed seeing us become a player on the national scene in these past few years -- would love to see it continue. But you almost HAVE to add portal pieces to continue competing at that level. For the past couple years, it's mostly been us, Iowa and Ohio State in the B1G. Maryland has dropped off a little from years of being a power. But other schools are catching up.

Observation:  players and team development have been demonstrated at a very high level.  However it has limitations.  There seems to be recruitment imbalance in relationship to winning success and the amount of popularity, fans and game day experience along with facilities that T. Moren and staff have created.  In current situation it seems that this year and last year (2 years now) in transfer portal players have not jumped to IU compared to lesser winning programs and more winning programs. Though some really good players have been recruited from high school….recruiting battles that IU have hosted and made efforts have been lost regarding 5 stars with IU getting In a player top 5 or so but the player going to a traditional winning school or even a lesser winning school.

(It is glaring in this year’s transfer portal since there is a need and many available players).

On a positive note:  There are still some very high impact players available and while keeping current team continuity…everything could change in a day with the addition of 2 crucial players that would make everything well…..still waiting.

T. Moren has said more than once that team development and keeping team together is a top priority with transfer portal  being an important piece.  It does speak to program character, empathy and integrity since young lives are involved.

There are still many big names in the portal and we do not know who CTM and staff are talking with or reached out to.  CTM has made it clear that the priorities in a recruit are team and defense first.  Players that do not want to commit to this philosophy will not make the cut regardless of how talented they may be on the offensive side of the ball.

Is that the Penn State guard? Which big? I was hoping we’d swing for the fences and get Kiki or whatever her name is from Stanford.

Penn State guard is a guess because of how she fits and her 3 point shooting.  Only player I have seen mentioned connecting to IU Ladies.
And a good big is needed.
I agree about a player like Kiki…but they have to want to come.  Maybe, something will happen with a player.

Many coaches stress team and player defense and team unity.

Though there are over a thousand players in transfer portal there are probably only (give or take a few) 30 to 50 impact players that could be good for IU Ladies…because IU Ladies are just as good as all the others and in many cases better.

When we first played against Shay Ciezki 2 years ago, she was dynamic, and I wondered at that time how Penn State got someone that good. To have her come over to IU would be a great development. She can shoot 3's at 42%. That is Scalia's level, and could continue IU's dominance in 3-point shooting.

One frustrating thing about the portal this year: if all the underclassmen step up + Faith Wiseman & Sydney Fenn play well (like Mack or Grace Berger their freshman year), then we really don't need anyone. But, based on last year, we don't know if that is going to happen or not.

Won't be joining up with Yarden at IU.

Oklahoma State WBB grad transfer Lior Garzon (6-1 SR forward, Ra'anana, Israel) has signed with Colorado, who've also landed Iowa State grad transfer Nyamer Diew; Garzon started her college career at Villanova

Van Lith to TCU… Yes? No? Not sure. Lol

I saw TCU play a couple times this year.  I think she will be a good fit for that team and coach.

Not sure she is actually committed to TCU?

Confusion reigns in regards to Van Lith.  Several days ago numerous reports of her commitment to TCU but news breaking this afternoon says that's not true and she remains in the portal.

Quote from an interview with Doug Fineberg -

“I did take a visit to TCU and am very interested in them, but I took visits to other schools and was very interested in them, too,” she told The Associated Press. “I haven’t made an official commitment, but I’m very close. The ink has not touched the paper for any school.”

Wondering if anything is going on between IU Ladies and Caitlin Weimar 6’4” forward/post @ Boston University.  There is some stiff competition.

I’m frankly surprised we haven’t heard a peep out of the portal.

Maybe Jelks is going to be counted on and heeled up to split time with Lilly.

Sure seems like we could use a speedy guard and a big though if we want to go deep in the tournament.

Kind of puzzling.

Lily Hansford is a 6'2" sophomore from Green Bay, WI so we would be considerably closer to her family if that is a consideration.  45% on 3's  (48-106) and only played a total of 587 minutes over 34 games.  While she's listed as a junior on mickey one's post from oregonlive.com the OSU website says she's a sophomore.

Does UCONN (and South Carolina) and a (couple other programs close) ever recruit any players other than 5 stars?  Without UCONN saying a whole lot about anything…just a steady stream of 5 stars committed and signing to play for UCONN.

That's what 11 national titles gets you.

We're the new kids on the block.

They better bump up our NIL if we’re gonna have a chance to win a title.
