College Basketball Doomsday Scenarios

Recommended Posts

Here's a doomsday scenario:

College basketball has a great, competitive regular season.  Conference tournaments go well.  Selection Sunday comes and it looks to be a great tournament.  And then.......

.....the players strike in an effort to try and force the NCAA to contribute to the use of their NIL for tournament advertising.  The tournament doesn't happen.

Doomsday for me is Gonzaga (or a similar team) going undefeated.... It would suck if it was Purdue or especially UK.... but at least I would feel like they earned it (especially Purdue even with a down year in the BIG). At least they play tough competition all year.

I know Gonzaga has a HARD non-conference schedule... but at some point playing teams that see you every year, on their home court, with their fans hating you is a thing... and for Gonzaga and that conference those games are still easy... Gonzaga is good... really good... but for me them going undefeated in that type of conference is Doomsday.

But, ya gotta figure a Mark Few victory party would be pretty epic.

With the recent string of cancellations, here are a couple updated doomsday scenarios, both of which would be tremendous setbacks for our program:

1) A few of our games are cancelled,, and we end the regular season something like 17-9. Our resumé is decent, but not enough for the committee and we miss the tournament yet again.

2) We win 22-23 games and are in position to make the tournament comfortably. A new Covid variant resistant to all vaccines and far deadlier starts wiping out younger people and the tournament gets cancelled again.

Damn, you went the grim route on #2.

Pretty sure we wouldn’t be very worried about basketball if that happened.

Geez…not a day brightening thread, eh?

In scenario #2, I guess they'll add a KenPom 2022 banner to their 1922 Helms banner.
