Had a chance to watch Montverde's game on Saturday against Central Pointe.  It was a mismatch from the start and Montverde won 75-47 but what a pleasure it was to watch Jalen.  Non-stop motor, very active on defense, great court awareness.  I had him with 13 pts on 6-11 FG; 1-5 on 3s; 9 reb; 9 asst; 2 stl in what I estimate was 24 min. of court time.

Also holding IU  offers from Montverde are '23 Kwame Evans and '24 Derik Queen.  Evans played about 14 min. scoring 8 pts. on 2-2 on 3s; 2-2 FT; 1 stl.  Queen played about 10 min. and was scoreless going 0-4 FG but did have 4 reb.

Montverde is so deep in talent and underclassmen have to be willing to bide their time.

Five-Star forward Kwame Evans Jr. is one of the most highly-touted recruits in the nation with high-major programs hot on his trail. The 6-foot-9, 200-pound power forward from Montverde (FL) Academy, is being heavily recruited by the likes of Kentucky, Duke, Oregon, Texas and Indiana, among others. 

“A lot of schools have been talking to me,” Evans said. “They’ve been recruiting me hard. It’s going to get more ramped up, so it is what it is right now.” Evans took his first official visit to Kentucky from Nov. 5-7, but says he has no other visits planned currently. “The coaching staff, how hard they want their players to go far,” Evans said of his Kentucky visit. “They earn their respect like they earn their spot on the floor, so that’s what I like.” 

Evans is one of seven players on Montverde’s roster that was named to the 2021-22 Naismith Trophy Player of the Year watchlist, alongside Skyy Clark, Jalen Hood-Schifino, Vincent Iwuchukwu, Dillon Mitchell, Malik Reneau and Dariq Whitehead. “I think KJ, again, because of the amount of talent we have, he’s going to end up being a great, great player,” Montverde head coach Kevin Boyle said. “He’s so versatile. He has the ability to guard multiple positions. He handles the ball. He shoots the ball. Again, he’s going have a really good season this year. Next year, he’ll blow up into one if not the premier all-around player, prospect in the country. With his versatility, he’s got a made-for-the-NBA type game.” 

Ranked by 247Sports.com as the No. 2-ranked prospect in the class of 2023, Evans has played a three-and-D type role on this loaded Montverde roster. “I can handle the ball as well, so pretty much that’s what I do,” he said. “I can also get to the rim, so I can pretty much do it all.” Looking ahead, Evans says he wants to improve his ball handling and motor, while also getting stronger physically.

From The Season Ticket - Friday night's game stats vs Real Salt Lake a game Montverde won 84 - 39.  Evans played 15 min. scoring 10 pts. on 3-5 FG; 5 reb; 1 asst; 1 TO.

Yesterday, Montverde defeated Wheeler (GA) 70 - 55 but haven't found any player stats.

Montverde totally dominates Oak Hill and wins easily 86 - 51.  Evans played 13 min. scoring 4 pts. on 2-5 FG; 0-2 FT; 6 reb; 4 asst; 1 TO.

In the 65 - 64 loss to IMG, Evans played 12 min. scoring 7 pts. on 1-2 FG; 1-1 on 3s; 4-4 FT; 4 reb.

Montverde participating in the City of Palms Classic and today beat Berkmar (GA) 74 -48.  Hood-Schifino had 16 pts. and Kwame Evans 10 pts.  That's the only stats I've seen thus far.

...Evans is ranked among the top five in 2023 and can be inconsistent. At Montverde he's toughened up, found a balance of playing inside and hunting deep jumpers but what is most impressive is his defensive versatility. It is hard to put into writing the things he's capable of but each time out he makes a few wow plays. He had three steals and two blocks to go with his 10 points and six rebounds in just under 16 minutes.

Montverde over Orlando Christian Prep 75 - 34 in the City of Palms Classic and will face Milton (GA) tomorrow at 9:00 p.m.  Haven't seen any individual stats but this comment from Elite High School Scouting:  Nice outings as well from 5 ‘23 KJ Evans & ‘22s Jalen Hood-Schifino (Indiana) in the runaway.

So he has two IU connections. I assumed it was just Hood-Shifino in his ear as a teammate, but way more intriguing now that he has a family connection as well.
