Recommended Posts

Hey, just a heads up for you southern Indiana folks: Gabe Cupps and Centerville are playing at New Albany tonight. Kind of curious how that game came together.

Will be there!

I’m probably lucky it’s tonight. If it was tomorrow I might have just blown out of the office early and driven over for it, which I don’t need to do. But it’s streaming on NFHS for anyone who has that. And I get to see Cupps and Powell live in Dayton in a couple of weeks.

The thing is though, It's not about 1 guy doing this.  It needs to be a team of guys and a staff all on the same page.  All pulling the same way.  Listening to one another.  Respecting one another.   Need 5 dogs on the court at the same time and a dog on the sideline.

The energy and effort stuff for all this time is astounding.  I can't figure it out.  If you recruit guys that play a laidback style its hard to break that style.  It's not about cool points, or fake hustle points.  It's about playing hard, all the time.  Not getting beat by every straight line drive.  Having some compete to stop that crap.  They will start winning games when the individual defensive effort reaches its peak.

We haven't had one in a long time.  We can start with one. I agree though the more the merrier.  Someone has to call out someone.

The play early where JHS lost the ball and was on the ground watching the defender sprint for a layup was deflating to watch to be honest.   I might of drove home after that if I was in the building

It's about pride. It starts with individual pride and carries over to team/program pride. It's fantastic to have individual pride, it appears that is what Cupps with be starting with at a minimum, and translates to team pride. I don't know what the culture will be at Indiana when he reaches campus. He could come in with all the dog in him that could be asked for but without a team/program willing to accept it we won't move forward much.
