Top of the 1st and PUke takes a 1-0 lead

After walking the first 3 batters, Sommers got a strikeout but then hit the next batter to score a PUke run. He then struck out the next 2 batters and somehow we escape with just the 1 PUke run.  For the inning Sommers walks 3, hits 1, strikes out 3.

Drew Ashley gets our first hit in the bottom of the 3rd on a fly ball that the wind kept pushing away from the outfielder and dropped in for a hit.  This is the 34th consecutive game that Ashley has gotten on base.  Grant Richardson gets a double down the right field line and with runners on 2nd and 3rd and 2 outs, Cole Barr works the pitcher for a walk to load the bases for Paul Toetz who strikes out.  On to the 4th trailing 1-0.

Same old story this season. Our pitcher is wild for a couple batters than settles in and is perfect. Offense struggles to hit a horrid pitcher everyone else has so far. Question is can we get a couple late or suffer a horrific loss?

I have seen this script all season and so far its working but we need to work on both our hitting (which has struggled early) and that our pitchers are ready from get go.

Three games in a row and our offense is dead. All against horrific pitchers. Our pitching might be best in Big Ten, but if we don't figure out how to hit at least a little bit there are a lot of 1-0 and 2-1 losses coming.

These plate approaches have to change. Period.

That should be end of that PU starter, but the fact he has shut us out on 2 hits after horrific starts to open season and 8.90 era is a red flag for our offense that has to be corrected if this season is to go where we want it to.

Not sure we can hit anyone right now.

Fucci just saved a run with a great dive behind first to stop a hit. Also able to get up and beat runner to bag.

9 outs left still down 1-0 at stretch.

No better against the new pitcher as I predicted.

Like I said until we address the hitting issues (and yes they have been a problem all yr) this team will not reach its ceiling. Pitching will always keep us in it, but until we learn to hit guys who every other teams are destroying (its every pitcher we are struggling against so its become a massive problem) this season is going to have some unexpected and disappointing losses.

Does not mean we cannot fix it but right now we have a huge problem that has to be corrected with our plate approach.

We got the lead on a two out single by Southern in the 8th, before Litwicki closed out the ninth for the win.

Played with fire again but ultimately did not get burned. Can't keep doing this though and have to get our offense going, but ultimately we won.
