Luke Brown says "hold my drink; I'm gonna go for it!"

Strange ride.....Ball State where he barely played to Stetson where he shot lights out (46% from three) to.....Indiana Wesleyan?  Not sure many players have averaged double figures in D1 and then transferred to an NAIA school.

And he's still got three years of eligibility remaining!

So three schools in his first year of D1 eligibility?

You are free to find it yourself since you claimed there were players (plural) that had played for five teams and transferred five times.  Additionally, a player who plays for five teams would have transferred four times, not five.  While I agree that there is a ton of player movement, it's not without regulation.  One waiver free transfer but grad transferring has always been available.  The reason we are seeing more grad transfers now is the extra year players were given for covid.

Sounds like Luke Brown has transferred a lot!

Didn’t he have 2 stops at Stetson?

He's a 6th year player who has started all 45 games he's played at IU. The injury was a broken bone so there is no reason to think he won't recover completely, especially almost a year after the injury occurred. His competition is a freshman who, while a 4* recruit, was not in the top 100 and is more of a pass first type player. If I was a betting man, I'd put big money on Johnson starting.

I think Cupps will give IU some quality backup minutes this year but he'd have to drastically outperform Johnson to take his starting spot. He also needs to add weight even though he's already strong.

Agree completely on Johnson, except I'm never completely confident on a player coming beck from an injury that required surgery, especially a joint injury.  Perhaps the fact that we aren't pushing hard for another guard for the last scholarship is an indication of what the coaching staff thinks.

Galloway starts alongside Johnson is what is probably going to happen, unless coach decides to go with three guards and in that case Galloway swings over to the three spot.  Who knows what is going to happen.  On paper we look like we are going to be deeper than last year.  But then we were supposed to be really deep last year and it didn't turn out that way.  Thing aren't going to sort themselves out until we actually start playing real games.

There you go, proves my point!!

Thanks

It actually doesn't...and that original post was mine.

1.  You said players had five schools and five transfers which is impossibility.  If you have been to five schools, you've transferred four times.

2.  If you read my correction on Brown, he didn't actually go to a JUCO -- his freshman year was at Nevada, he transferred to Arizona and sat out a year per the rule at the time then played a year at Arizona, transferred to Louisiana and played two years (and it was waiver free -- the NCAA allows a one time waiver free transfer without sitting out and since he had sat out at Arizona, the transfer to Arizona was his one time waiver free transfer).  He is now transferring to Memphis -- also waiver free as it is a grad transfer.

So in total, he's been at four schools and transferred three times, not five and five.

Doesn't have to sit a year to play high D1 ball the following year?

Correct, he will not have to sit a year due to Indiana Wesleyan not being a D1 school.  If he had transferred to a D1 school he would have had to have the NCAA grant a waiver due to already having transferred previously.

It wasn't a joint injury. It was a broken bone in his foot. I'm pretty sure it didn't require surgery but instead he got surgery to try to speed up the recovery process because he really wanted to play again last season.

Anyway, I'm done with repeating myself. You don't think he's a lock as a starter. You're welcome to your opinion which will ultimately be proven wrong when he's a starter next season after practicing all summer at 100% barring n unrelated injury in the future.

I have no idea what we are disagreeing over.  We both think X will start.  I have some doubt about his full recover until proven otherwise.  You seem to think the injury has healed fine.  Neither of us are in a position to know for sure since we don't have access to all information.  It all seems like such a trivial thing.   Peace,  Let's move on to other more interesting subjects.

He almost played at the end of the year last year. Your skepticism is based on literally nothing. You’re right we don’t have access to all information. I’m not sure what brand of toothpaste gabe cupps uses, but despite not knowing that, I bet he brushed his teeth this morning.

I think it’s awesome he’s practicing at dinner - dedication!

Joe Toussaint also entered the transfer portal, per John Rothstein.  Spent three years at Iowa before playing last year at West Virginia.  6'1" guard, plus defender but not great offensively.  Over four years averaged 17 mpg, 6 ppg, 1.9 rpg, 2.8 apg.  Shot 39/30/78.

Just putting this out there since he might make some people's all-name team.  Doctor Bradley is transferring from New Mexico State.  Played for Cal-St Fullerton in 20-21 averaging 4.9 points and 2.7 rebounds.  Did not play D1 ball in 21-22, I believe, before transferring to New Mexico State last year where he averaged 6.4 points .  Transferred very early in the portal period this spring to Northern Illinois....but my guess is now with his legal troubles, NIU is cutting bait.  FWIW, Bradley is one of the players charged in the case at New Mexico State for sexual harrassment and confinement of a team mate that ended NM State's season early.
