FORMER HOOSIERS SPARK SIDELINE CANCER TO TBT QUARTERS

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A pair of former Hoosiers combined to score Sideline Cancer’s final 10 points of the game and advance to the quarterfinals of The Basketball Tournament (TBT) with a 76-66 win over Team Challenge ALS Tuesday afternoon at Nationwide Arena.

After calling time out under four minutes to set the Elam Ending target score at 74 while holding a 66-63 lead, Sideline Cancer got a 3-pointer and postup jumper from Mo Creek to go up 71-63.

After a 3 from sixth-seeded Team Challenge ALS, Abell hit two free throws to put Sideline Cancer within a point of victory.

The next trip down the court, point guard Marcus Keene drove into the lane and kicked the ball out to Abell, whose rainbow 3 gave No. 22 seed Sideline Cancer its second upset win in a row and a berth in the quarterfinals on Saturday at 4 p.m. against Boeheim’s Army, a Syracuse alumni team.

Abell finished with 17 points and two rebounds, while Creek had 13 points, five rebounds and two assists for the winners.

This is a great concept given what’s available right now. Too bad IU didn’t field it’s own team like Syracuse and Purdue did. I saw that Maurice Creek, Remy Abell, Luke Fischer, and Jordan Crawford are the former Hoosiers participating.
