Well it has turned into this “well why should I have to go to school for the NBA? Why should the NBA have requirements?” A narrative created by brats. But it’ll be good for the NCAA. The NBA is going to miss on a lot of kids as there will be A LOT of kids leaving after HS. But CBB will have kids playing who want to be playing CBB. And you’ll see a lot more 3-4 year players.

College basketball was a lot better product when kids stayed 4 years and I would say the NBA was a better product when kids stayed in college 4 years.

Agreed. Only 1 or 2 true one and dones per year on average IMO.

Durant, Lebron, Garnett, Zion, Ayton, KAT, Ant Davis. This list is longer of course but there are probably 30 guys that think they are ready when only about 2 or 3 are really ready to contribute.

Agreed,  legitimate, ready,1 and done starts/contributes day 1 and elevates the team well beyond the previous season.

Of those, i think Garnett, Lebron (add Kobe) were straight to the nba.

That's my preference, straight to the league or Junior status of your high school class, before you can.

NBA will benefit. They’ll probably come up with some new contract structure for high school products and will get them into their systems earlier and gain revenue from their hype. Social media has allowed guys like Zion and Seventh Woods and Emmanuel Mudiay to create brands in high school as well. NCAA will take a hit financially, but it will help clear up a lot of the dirty business reducing risk. There will still be cash going to the top guys, but substantially less.

All my own opinion, but feels logical.

When I went and tried out for the Mad Antz, I looked up their contracts. A G-League player now will make about 30K. But it has been said that once all 30 teams have their own, it’ll jump over 100k. And they’ve already started building new contracts to go along with G-League players that have been drafted by NBA teams and have been stashed.

After feeling disappointed after last night's loss, and then listening to Dan Dakich today. I'm 100% convinced that Fred Glass didn't do enough due diligence with Chris Holtmann and am 100% convinced that we hired the wrong guy. I'm not saying get rid of Archie, I think he should absolutely get 1-2 more years, but I'm just really disappointed in this whole situation.

There are three paths Archie's career can shake out at IU. 1. He's successful and wins multiple NCAA championships. 2. Fred Glass doesn't fire him and he gives him 6-9 years. Fred Glass won't fire him to save his own job. 3. McRobbie retires in 2020, which mean Fred Glass is Fired shortly after, and then Archie is fired in 2021-2022.  FWIW I think option 3 is the most likely.

I don't think Archie will be fired for his record, but because he seems absolute void of any emotions or personality.

I don't always put a whole lot of stock in what Dakich has to say. He seems to have a beef with IU -- or goes out of his way to be critical. Maybe because he wasn't considered for the job after Sampson was fired?

Somebody posted a podcast somewhere on this site with an interview of a recruiting/college hoops guru who said we had three realistic candidates for the job after Crean was fired: Archie, Holtmann and Chris Mack. From what this guy said, Holtmann wanted no part of the fishbowl that is IU basketball. He said if all coaches are considered equal, Mack was the best choice for us -- because he has a bigger personality than Archie. But I also saw somewhere on this site someone (who seems to have pretty good knowledge of the inner workings of the program) write that we contacted Mack and apparently, he wasn't interested. So that pretty much left us with Archie.

I will say this: I kinda agree with your last statement. It seems like these days, players want to have a relationship with their coach and on the surface, Archie seems to be a hard guy to to get to know. Obviously, I don't know what goes on behind the scenes, but it does seem like Archie's gonna be more Tom Landry (very little relationship w/players) than say, Coach K.

I listened to the podcast and the vibe I got from his comments on Holtmann is that Holtmann wasn't considering the job because he didn't think IU was going to reach out to him. I didn't get the vibe that he was actively saying "no I would never take the IU job". Out of the 3 my preference would be Holtmann, then Archie, and then Mack.

As of right now I would say I am 70% we hired the wrong guy but thats par for the course for IU. I give archie next year to prove me wrong.

Will a 20-15 record with a 8-12 conference record and a loss in the round of 32 change your mind?

That was Ohio State's record this year. I think that 20-15 and a round of 32 exit is the most likely record for next year, Archie's 3rd year. Who knows what Archie's fourth Year holds. But nothing I've seen so far screams "WE ARE HEADED TOWARD A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP".

I think in the long run it will be in IU's favor for Archie to have not worked out. I think if Stevens were to ever come back to coaching, I think it would be in 2021-2022 when we would be looking for a coach.

If not, it gives us 2 more years to find the right fit. For one I love Chris Beard. Would love to have him.

Yeah i figured it was ohio state or iu with a few more wins. But even if we made the tourney at 8-12 it would not scream excitement to me for the future. I mean people can blame injuries all they want but michigan state got it done with two of its best players hurt. I just have not seen enough progress to say oh yeah this thing is going to turn around.

P.S. I would love chris beard at IU. Throw 5 million at him and get it done.

Honestly, If I were the AD and Chris Beard, who was the associate head coach under Bob Knight at Texas Tech, takes his team to the final four after losing 5 of his 7 top scorers from the team prior, I would fire Archie on the spot maybe and hire Chris Beard.

If we could get him i would fire archie in a second. What beard has done two years in a row is no fluke. I doubt he will be at TT long.

No shot we'd be able to get him with Fred Glass at the helm. Our AD should know through personal interaction if Archie is the right fit. I firmly believe that after 2 years of interaction he should be able to know if he's the right guy for the job and if Archie is capable of winning multiple national championships. From my perspective, I don't think he's the right fit (but I'm watching from afar). I don't think Glass has ever really sat down and said here are the traits and characteristics of championship coaches. because if he had, he would have fired Crean after year 3.

As AD I would think you have to have back channel conversations with Beard. You give Archie one more year and if Beard is still available I think you make the move. Even with a 20-15 record and a win in the NCAA tournament I would still fire Archie in Favor of Beard.

Beard may be gone by then but thats par for IU. Fred would go find another mid major coach imo. I dont think we will ever go anywhere with fred making hires
