• The Hoosiers return home after defeating Butler, 64-53, on the road on Wednesday night.
• Redshirt junior guard Ali Patberg led the way with 14 points while sophomore guard Grace Berger added 12 points and 10 points from freshman forward Mackenzie Holmes.
• Junior guard Bendu Yeaney returned to action on Wednesday night at Butler where she made her season debut after rehabbing a ruptured Achilles that she suffered in the second round of the NCAA Tournament in March. Yeaney missed the first nine games of her junior season and came off the bench for 10 minutes of play and scored three points.
• Holmes has continued to impress in her first 10 collegiate games, scoring in double figures seven times including four of the last five games. She is third on the team in scoring with 11.8 points and 5.8 rebounds per game while shooting 70 percent from the floor.
• Indiana leads the all-time series with YSU, 2-0. The two programs have met previously in matchups in Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall with the last time on Nov. 25, 2005 in a 74-38 win.
• IU will close out non-conference action with back-to-back games against Youngstown on Sunday and against UCLA on Sunday, Dec. 22. The Hoosiers will have a variety of promotions for the game against the Bruins:
  • ALS Awareness Night (IU will wear their visiting red jerseys as red is the color for ALS Awareness)
  • A teddy bear toss will also take place with all donations going to the Bloomington Boys and Girls Club and fans who bring a teddy bear for the toss will receive $4 admission.

Pretty lethargic start for us against a very undermanned (or is it underwomaned?) Youngstown St. and we trail 15-14 at the end of the 1st Q.   IU only 2-11 on FG in the quarter but fortunately we were 8-10 on FT.  Gulbe picked up 2 fouls in the quarter.   Schires for YSU also with 2 fouls.

Not sure if they've been reading too many articles about how good they are or they've totally overlooked YSU and are thinking about UCLA next Sunday.  Midway through the 2nd Q and YSU still in the lead 28-26.  Hoosiers with 7 TOs.  5 YSU players already with 2 fouls.

Well, we started playing with a little more urgency and at the half IU leads 41-38 but YSU is not rolling over and playing dead.  We really need a much better effort in the second half.             

Penn 14 pts.; Wise 11 pts.            Wise and Penn 4 reb each.          Given our size advantage, we are not dominating the boards as we should.  IU with 17 total reb but we've allowed YSU to grab 15.  Gulbe, Penn & Allen each with 2 fouls.

Halftime in the locker room was apparently quite enlightening.  Midway through the 3rd Q and we lead 57-42.  Have yet to miss a FG in this half.

End of 3 and we have a 63-46 lead only giving up 8 YSU points in the quarter.

Penn - 17 points, 6 rebounds       Patberg - 10 points, 5 assists            Wise - 13 points, 4 rebounds     Gulbe 5 rebounds            Berger only 5 pts but she has 5 assists.

Certainly don't need any  more slow starts like they had the first half tonight, but they certainly took care of business in the second half and take a 93-56 win.

Berger 9 pts, 8 assts

They took charge of the boards in the second half and overall played very well.    Outscored YSU 52-18 in the half.  Also finished with 22 assists on 34 made shots.

Very encouraging that Yeaney played 10 min. in her first game back against Butler and today she played 16.

Man, they were so lethargic in 1st and 2nd, but found their groove. Like seeing Warthen and Noverske play w confidence

Not surprising. Versyp has done to PU what Mike Davis did to IU. Followed a legend and did great at first then drove program to mediocrity. Difference is PU refuses to get rid of her so they alternate between a fringe tourney team and missing all together. Women's BBall was PU's elite sport through the mid 2000's as a dynasty similar to IU soccer till Versyp got her hands on it. Fortunately for IU soccer when they got Mr. Mediocrity in Mike Freitag they dismissed him in a few years and Todd Yeagley has returned it to elite. Not sure why PU lets Versyp keep lowering their standards but not complaining.  

Thankfully for us Moren (who played for PU) has a 10 million dollar buyout clause in her contract that pretty much prohibits her from going to Boilermakers after what Versyp did to us spurning IU for PU. Looks like it worked out for us better then for PU even though it took many years to play out that way:).
