(2018) SF - Jerome Hunter Transfers To Xavier

I have to wonder if Jerome is quietly motivated to shine now that he's out of his (former) teammate's shadow.  Hopefully it will be like the Bracey Wright/ Deron Williams  scenario (with us benefiting this time).

I hope part of that shooting regimen includes time spent at the FT line - this past season showed how much poor FT shooting can turn W's into L's.

I think you're thinking of Jake Forrester, playing at Westtown with Cam Reddish.  Jerome here played in no one's shadow, and was a finalist for Ohio Mr. Basketball (lost to UA's Dane Goodwin, decommit from OSU, now Notre Dame).

Jerome does have length.  The guy looks like an NBA player.  He creates a real matchup issue out there, as he's really an inside player that's 100% committed to becoming a perimeter/ball handler type.  Have to imagine he and Archie will work to create some mismatches out there.  

I can't wait to get these guys on campus, start working with Clif and the rest of the team.

Damn (facepalm).  You are correct about the teammate thing.  Maybe the best recovery would be to say that he (Hunter) has been overlooked because of Bazley and that could be a motivator.

I'll accept that.  I made an error, confusing that Bazley was not on Hunter's team but Reddish probably did steal the spotlight from Forrester - as Stromboli corrected me above.

As stated, I'll accept that it was an honest question.  Just wondered if it was a little bit of "piling on" after Stromboli had already corrected my error (and you liked his post, no less).

Hunter is going to be a stellar player at IU. I hope by sophomore year he has one of the wing spots locked down!

I think it's a developmental goal. I don't believe he is a good enough ball handler to play a guard spot in the BIG right now. Ed Schilling will have his work cut out for him.

I believe it was both Anderson and Hunter that we're talking about developing into SG. They'll both play the wing. The more they develop their handles the more likely they'll play the smaller wing spots.

I read an interview a while back where Jerome said Archie told him he'll play SF.

Ohio star Hunter eager to graduate, enroll at Indiana

COLUMBUS, Ohio – We caught up with Indiana basketball signee Jerome Hunter during an AAU event this past weekend in central Ohio.

The 6-7 Hunter is one of the key pieces in Indiana coach Archie Miller’s 2018 recruiting class, which is ranked ninth nationally and second in the Big Ten.

Hunter was a standout for three seasons at Pickerington North High School on Columbus’ east side.

As a junior in 2016-17, Hunter led Pickerington North to a 21-7 record and a berth in a Division I regional championship game. Hunter ended the regular season with averages of 19.3 points and 10.9 rebounds per game. He was a special mention All-Ohio pick in Division I.

Hunter had offers from a number of schools, including Butler, Dayton, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio State, Pittsburgh and others. He verbaled to new IU coach Archie Miller on July 17, 2017, and signed with the Hoosiers last November.

As a senior, Hunter averaged 21 points and 11 rebounds. He shared Division I Central District player of the year honors with Notre Dame signee (and Ohio Mr. Basketball winner) Dane Goodwin. He was also a first-team All-Ohio pick. Hunter had a career-high 46-point game in a triple overtime win over Dublin Coffman.

Pick North ended the year 20-5 after an upset loss to Mount Vernon in a D-I district tournament game.

Hunter rose from relative obscurity two years ago. He is ranked as the nation’s No. 55 prospect nationally, the No. 12 power forward and Ohio’s No. 2 prospect for 2018, according to the 247Sports Composite.

He is joined in the Indiana class by Indiana shooting guard Romeo Langford (ranked sixth nationally), Indiana wing Damezi Anderson (ranked 116th), Indiana point guard Robert Phinisee (ranked 127th) and Pennsylvania power forward Jake Forrester (ranked 139th). Langford recently verbaled to complete that class.

Hunter is set to graduate from Pick North on Saturday and will enroll at Indiana on June 12. 

“I can’t wait to get there,” Hunter said. “I think we are all great players. All of us will be coming together and playing for a new coach and a great coach in Archie. I think we can do something special at Indiana.”

Hunter talked about Indiana adding Langford as a late signee.

“We had everybody except that one other player,” Hunter said. “I think we got it.”

Hunter talked about how he could be used at Indiana.

“They see me playing the three there and just being real versatile and using my abilities however he wants to use them,” he said.

Hunter said he had no regrets in spurning his hometown school Ohio State for Indiana.

“Indiana has been good and has a great history,” he said. “Coming into Indiana with the great fanbase they have, I can’t wait to get there.”

Starting to worry about this “underlying” injury that Jerome has. Went from hearing he earned the gold jersey in practice to hearing he has a non-basketball related injury the next day.

Don't like hearing that. Not even diagnosed yet. I thought coming into the season that Hunter would be an important piece. I wonder, if this drags on for significant time, if a red shirt might be used.

Worried he may miss the whole season

Scary how many usable pieces we have that look good. I expected Hunter to be a top 7 or 8 guy this year.

Really hoping we get to see him soon. Loved his intensity versus Romeo in the scrimmage.
