(2017) PG Tremont Waters to LSU

Recommended Posts

We haven't had much discussion about Green's potential to develop into that backup PG role next year. I've always thought his ceiling was pretty high and he was under-rated as far as recruiting goes. Would have liked to have Waters but understand why he didn't pick IU and we'll be fine. Just need Wilkes and/or Preston.

This is why you don't take commitments from players like Durham and Gelon so early

If anything, Crean has taught us to exercise our right to remain silent on these potentially project players. He wouldn't have taken their commitments if he didn't see something special. I'm not crazy about early commits either, but hard to bash recruiting decisions that haven't played out on the court.

I get taking a "project" every other or every third class but not in every class. Crean has found good underrated talent but has also brought in players that didn't develop. I like the idea of bringing in a guard with length and athleticism that has a hug ceiling. I don't like having 7 guards on the roster and recruiting another. It seems as though 1-2 of those guards fall in the "project" category.

He has also brought in top 50 players that have turned out to be duds. After the top 20 players in each class it's really a crap shoot sometimes.

Recruiting services do miss on some kids but they're often right more often than not. That's not saying the 50th ranked player will be better than the 51st ranked player. It means that the top 20-30 are usually impact recruits. 30-70 solid role players as frosh, etc.

It's no surprise the teams with the most talent are usually winning things.

Also as I have stated several times. Projects should be taken to fill classes not start them.

I would rather not start classes with projects either. However, sometimes that's the one you need to get. I just have an issue with going back to back classes going after similar project player. I don't like the logjam at guard either.

This goes alone with that statement

Sometimes projects aren't really projects to be fair. OG for example.

I agree with this 100%. Clifton Moore might have that feel to it. RoJo came from off the radar too to begin with. And yes, sometimes you take who you can get but the Elites are much more selective with their scholarships. We haven't reached that level yet.

What the......Oh well Im not crushed on missing Waters other than the fact that I would like one decent recruit in this class. Come on Wilkes.

By "decent" do you mean, really good? Because I would think Justin Smith would qualify as a decent recruit (top 70 in the class according to 247).
