TOM CREAN FIRED

A loss tonight followed by a Friday 4:59 pm press release by Fred Glass?

Just for the sake of not wanting to have to wait any longer to see what happens and who we end up getting as a replacement, I'd say let's hope so. Other than that, if we for sure know Crean is gone and if he himself knows he is gone, I'd like to see the players win some games. If we know that Crean winning the tournament won't buy him another year then heck..

I would personally like to see him fired after the BTT. That way we can have at least one home game to cheer and give these players the recognition they deserve and not have animosity towards them for actually winning a game and possibly keeping CTC's job.

Billy D said no. But wait! Maybe he didn't, and we're still talking.

Fred Glass was at the MVC tournament, and Jay Bilas says Gregg Marshall is Btown bound to relieve his goodie good twin of his coaching duties.

Alford is involved in another cover-up, but this time it's his abismal tournament history (or lack there of considering he's missed it more times than he's taken his teams dancing) as he tries to convince Indiana that his resume is actually not a copy/paste of Crean's.

Sean Miller is currently sweating through his shirt, wondering if it's time to leave the desert heat.

And Brad Stevens is too busy living it up in Boston to answer calls from the annoying girl back home who won't give up on her love for him.

Right, I agree...whether the BTT end for us tonight or a couple games in the tournament later, I hope we get an answer after the BTT is over for us, but before the NIT. Then at least we all know and not wait until after the NIT. Like you said, then we get a home game to just root on the players and hope they do well themselves without wondering if anything they do will result in a coaching decision.

Something to note is in Terry Hutchen's currently live chat this week he has completely changed his tune from Crean may be back to Crean is probably gone. He's clearly heard something this week (as he's confirmed on chat).

Do you have a screenshot of what he said?

Not sure if it's been mentioned, but Kent Sterling had George Montgomery on today. Montgomery said after talking to people within the MSU program that Crean is gone.

Yeah he didn't exactly say he's probably gone...

Speaking of Ad's confidence Glass has specifically declined interview on Crean's job status after being supportive in past. Telling? If he were staying for sure you would think Glass would of come out and said so instead of staying nothing.

@Aaron My guess is there's something in what you're saying here. You would think Glass would try to less the noise a little bit. Silence in this case may be telling its own story. The problem is that Glass plays everything so close to the vest that it's hard to get a read. Another thing I found interesting is that Glass hadn't been to a road game this year and all of sudden he was at Iowa and then again at Purdue. Was it just a coincidence that he had been in Chicago the night of the Iowa game and he and his wife came over to Iowa City? I don't know. But you do feel like there's more to the story than we're hearing right now.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Does anyone believe Crean's denial and what did Doyle expect him to say? He basically gave a non-answer and said he was focused on coaching team. Not that he expects to be here next year. I for one hope Crean ends up at Mizzou or somewhere else where they will appreciate his big years every 2-3 years with a tourney appearance every other year. Crean is a great guy and at many schools he will be appreciated for what he does and has done his whole career. At IU at minimum you must take tourney every year or you will have angry mobs at your door calling for your head. Its part of the job here with high (and maybe to high) expectations. Like Crean said "It's Indiana" and that means it for good and bad with expectations

@Aaron That's why denials in situations like this mean very little. They are almost like the dreaded vote of confidence that an AD gives and then fires his coach a few weeks later. I don't know if there's anything serious here or not but I'm starting to hear from a lot of people that I trust that maybe it's not that far fetched. I still think all the talk is premature until the next few days play themselves out. If IU wins a couple of games here (I'm aware that's a big if) things could change. That's why I usually try not to get into all of this talk until the season is over. But I do know that your personal sentiments are in line with a lot of other people I hear from.

I've got to disagree with you here.  I think in this instance the reporter asked a question that he had no business asking in this situation.  Crean's denial isn't a matter of integrity in this case, it is a matter of protecting his team.  Those kids deserve his best and the best chance to succeed in this tournament.  He could have just been shielding his team from the distraction.  It could be up for debate whether or not he acted in the best way, but being put on the spot is difficult.

I agree with you. What he could have very reasonably said "I'm not talking about any of that right now- we're focused on beating Iowa in a couple hours" or something like that. Absolutely can't fault him for that approach.
