First, money isnt an issue and its seen as a gesture of good will to the coaching fraternity. Second, it allows Crean to get a jump on lower prospects he will need to land at his next gig. Which should help him land a job, if he can say I have a recruit or two ready to come with me. Remember we are making a change and we want a positive, amicable separation. No bad PR. Third, it also gives a good smoke screen to the fans and doesnt give the fanbase, as a whole, 100% certainty of a change. Too many positives not to let him recruit. Not doubting there's a meeting, but how do we know the meeting simply didn't agree on the buyout in the event Crean doesn't hit a certain goal (win the BTT or get to the second round in the NCAA tournament, for example)?
