A drive and TD would be rather optimal this series. -

Looking forward to any tidbits that you or anyone else hear. It’s fantastic that things went well but it is too bad that he has three more visits. Would love to read about a cancellation, or two or three :) -

Roebuck is obviously tiny but it’s not a remote country town. It’s just a few miles out of Spartenburg and the Greenville/Spartanburg metro is around 320,000 with big BMW, Michelin, among others, facilities. Greenville has a fair amount of restaurants etc downtown. I don’t think he will be overwhelmed like Bird but who knows until the visit. -
He never made it to campus and mentioned he wants to test the waters because of the introduction of NIL. I have little doubt that future recruiting will include information about money players have made, projected earning potential and in some cases sweet $$$ deals will already be lined up if “you only need to commit”

Yep, I read an interview with Saban yesterday and he mentioned that at this point the Bama players, aside from the QB, were not cashing in (even at the top brand name in college football). I think a lot of players that ultimately really cash in will be situational type scenarios like the Watshot, Prillers unexplainable popularity, the Fab Five, a number one recruit “all the sudden” getting a big deal from a local car dealership/business, a team that wins the natty, a hot gymnast, etc. Saban made a good point with the Bama locker room when he told his players that NFL locker rooms are also full of players with wildly different salaries and that they should basically just deal with it.

Game Thread: IUBB vs BC Mega | 7:30PM *NOT TELEVISED*
DChoosier replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Thanks for the story. They made an interesting point that the offense bogged down in game 2 which also happened to be the game that Kopp almost entirely missed. He might not be an All-American but will be very valuable if he can fill the role of being a perimeter threat which has been sorely missing the last 4 years or so. -
Just crazy. Frosts three years...4 wins, 5 wins, 3 wins. Pelini lasted 7 years. Won 10 games 3 times and 9 games 4 times and then gets fired.....OOPS.

Ha...They are investigating him for the illegal use of analysts and consultants. On behalf of all Big Ten teams I am 100% ok with him continuing to use those same resources (legal or not).

Curious, and I have no idea, but….Did James really have a reputation for “putting in zero work”? Not disputing you but I had not heard that before. If true that would explain a lot as to why he did not pan out.

2021 IUBB Bahamas Trip
DChoosier replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I read the blurb below but think you might be right. In any case it’s still odd that a football player can play in 4 games and still take a regular redshirt while a basketball player can’t even play one second and redshirt. ……. Athletes can seek a medical redshirt if they suffered a season-ending injury before the midway point of their respective season. If a player suffers a season-ending injury early in the year but already used their redshirt, they can still apply for a waiver which would give them a sixth year of eligibility -

Yes, medical basketball redshirt rules are different than “regular” redshirt rules. In basketball you can play up to 1/2 regular season and still take a medical redshirt. In regards to “regular” redshirts…Coach K caught some crap a couple of years ago when he took Joey Baker off redshirt in a late season game but only played him for a few minutes. When K was asked after the game about burning Bakers redshirt year he claimed he did not even know what that term meant. Bakers total season stats, in the year K burned his redshirt, was 1-4 from the field. -

That’s correct. I find it rather bizarre that a football player can play 1/3 of the season and redshirt while a basketball player can’t even play 5 seconds. Don’t understand the inconsistency. -
2022 General Recruiting Thread (Bball)
DChoosier replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Good for him. Let’s face it…. college is not for everyone, there have been plenty of players that had zero business being in college (not saying that is the case with Gortman as I know next to nothing about him) and 650k is nothing to sneeze at. -
Good to hear about Spegal but I’ve been wondering if James would bolt ever since we landed Carr. James had already previously entered the portal but after he decided to stay we added Carr. He had to realize that Carr would probably reduce his chances to get carries. Kudos to our depth that his transfer will have little to no impact on the team.

Thanks. Great stuff and hope we hear more practice info. Any info on Stewart and his perimeter shooting or how Geronimo is doing ? -

College Conference/Football Expansion

Gus gets a big thumbs up from me for frequently calling Assembly Hall the Carnegie Hall of basketball. Maybe I’m easy but that’s all it takes:) -
College Conference/Football Expansion
DChoosier replied to CrossboneIU22's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
In addition I read an article that made a few good points. With the top 2 or more teams from the power conferences virtually being guaranteed a spot in the expanded playoffs why in the world would Alabama, Georgia, Florida, LSU, Texas AM want Oklahoma and Texas competing for a spot and/or possibly hurting their playoff chances if they lose to them? And with the expanded playoff a Big 12 Oklahoma is almost guaranteed to get in the playoff every single year and Texas’s chances of making the expanded playoff are better in the Big 12. I know………it’s all about the $$$$$ and there is seemingly never enough $$$$$$ in “amateur” (LOL) sports. -
College Conference/Football Expansion

Money probably means more than anything to these guys but if I’m the Michigan AD I would be worried about UM being beaten like a drum in the SEC. In a conference that large they could be looking at years of being the 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th best team. -
We are recruiting better than I ever dreamed could happen at IU. TA is the man!!! I’ve read more about football recruiting this year than the past multi-decades put together. Really exciting. That being said, both Rivals and Scout have Rutgers with a slightly (very slightly) higher average ranking per player than us. In no way does that detract from the unbelievable class we are landing but just pointing out that Rutgers ranking isn’t just because of quantity. We need a couple of doormats in the East but unfortunately Schiano might not be co-operating :).

(2021) S Maurice Freeman to Indiana
DChoosier replied to LamarCheeks's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
In spite of being a bit “hidden”, due to COVID cancellations, he had offers from VA Tech, Ole Miss, Michigan, Georgia Tech, and others....After years of seeing us beat out Central Michigan etc for recruits I’ll admit that I never thought I’d live to see IU land so many players with a number of similar (and better) offers. Very exciting. -
PFF Top 10 returning players at each position
DChoosier replied to Dalton26's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
Below shows how much it stands out that we have multiple players on the list you forwarded......heady company. Colleges with the most players that rank inside the top 10 at their respective position Alabama: 9 Oklahoma: 6 Ohio State: 6 Clemson: 4 LSU: 4 Indiana: 4 Georgia: 3 Washington: 3 Iowa State: 3 -
Bates is the 11th top 30 player IU has landed since 2000 (using Scout rankings). 9/10 of the previous top 30 players (all but Lander) played a ton as freshman and I think we would agree that Lander came out a year too early as he was not physically ready. The top 30 players since 2000 are Gordon, Romeo, Noah, Zeller, DJ White, Blackmon, Yogi, Bryant, Lander, Bates and TJD. Nice lineup! Being highly ranked does not guarantee anything but I won’t be surprised if Bates plays top 3 minutes including working his way into the starting lineup. Aside from his ranking he seems to have a lot of traits we have been lacking (tenacity, 3 level scorer, can get his own shot etc.) We will see.
