Game Thread: vs. Eastern Michigan 11/9 - 6 pm - BTN

It’s funny how people notice different things. I see posts about IU uniform logos, stripes, stars, color combinations, length, fit. etc etc and I laugh at myself because I literally don’t notice any difference between uniforms we wear. I do notice when a baseball team trots out wearing throwback 1940’s uniforms, with hideous colors, but aside from that……nothing. -

One difference is that we were totally out of the Iowa game within 2 1/2 minutes :( -

It’s so early. First chance Woody has had to view what guys can do in front of a crowd with a game that counts. The rotation is not set and I won’t be surprised if Geronimo and/or Bates evolve into starters. Thankfully we got a win a as a loss would have been a “bad loss” at tourney selection time. Glad we have NIU prior to the St John’s game and looking forward to the rest of the season. -

That roster with a junior Juwan Morgan and Robert Johnson should not have lost by 21 at home to ISU. And aside from them did ISU (who finished 13-18 that year) even have players better than a young Smith, Durham, Green and Deron Davis? I don’t think so. -

Some posters might have been “asking for him” but going into the season I didn’t see many minutes (especially after the Bahamas games) for KL, or Leal, due to X, Rob, Stewart and Bates gobbling up most of the 80 minutes available for the 1 and 2 guards. -

The big difference 4 years ago is that we had just lost to ISU by 21…..Ouch. -

I agree in that a mediocre 6 point win was 1,000 points better than a loss. If we are a bubble team, at the end of the year, for the committee this is a 1-0 victory as opposed to a “bad” loss. -

I would not call KL not seeing the court “alarming”, or even surprising, as two different coaches have seen him in numerous practices and have chosen to not give him much playing time (so far). I wish him the best but “it is what it is” in regards to whether or not he deserves to get playing time. It’s verrrryyyyy early but he also didn’t get much time in the Bahamas and I’m not sure it’s going to change barring an injury. -

If he becomes a little better shooter I would agree but a wing needs to be a little more of a threat and I say that even though I like the “little” things he does. -

Rob might be closer to the “freshman Rob that I thought would progress over his career” that I had hoped for. Way too early to predict that but if it happens he could turn into the PG starter. -

I thought KL’s launched shots from his belt, last year, was bad but X’s stroke from the three is rather…shall we say, “funky”. -

To be fair 3-24 Goshen was better than you think last year as they only lost to Indiana Wesleyan by 52 points and Marian by 48. -
It was a NIL event. IU could not have put it together.

It’s going to be interesting to watch how KL does this year and/or how he handles his role. -
The NIL money is not directly from the schools. The cheating “under the table” money also was not from the schools. The cheating money was primarily from big money boosters and the shoe companies. Now that there is NIL those same cheating business owning boosters (and any business owners etc) can openly pay a kid to make an appearance at their store/dealership/business. They can openly go a a guy that has a podcast, like the one hosted by AJ Guyton, and say “if you have a weekly show each year with incoming freshman we will pay each freshman, and your show, 10k to have them advertise our restaurants /insurance company/car dealership/legal practice, etc. If boosters consistently do things like that, year after year, players will know that going to IU or Bama or UK will be worth at least 40, 75 or 100k. The school itself does not provide the money but the previously under the table bags of money can now be out in the open. I just saw that a UK freshman signed a deal with a local Porsche dealership which includes him driving a brand new 80-100k car and it it completely legal now.

That’s nice and all but means zero if the plan is not backed up by donors paying meaningful cash to utilize players in their company advertisements, for appearances and/or funneling a bunch of cash to podcasts with the understanding that the talent (ie the players) are paid for the interviews.

You really seem obsessed with these guys and it’s clear you hate them. Got it. Do you really think fans of other schools, like Duke and UK, are laughing at us about the Hoosier Hysterics (or even have the slightest idea who they are?). I’ll bet Cameron is just buzzing about the HH guys and not even thinking about coach K’s last season. LOL. To compete we need to be viable in the NIL arena. These guys, unlike all of us posters, tried. If they flame out others will hopefully pick up the torch. If we start out winning literally NO ONE will care about tonight or any of the HH videos. Winning will cure all.

THIS..We need to 100% employ the George Constanza opposite strategy. When Sheridans instinct is to run the ball up the middle he should call a pass play, when he is conservatively trying to preserve a 30 point loss he should be bold and go for it, etc etc. -
Agree. That being said I would like an 8 team playoff. First round right before Xmas, 2nd around New Years and then the Natty. The 7 biggest bowls each rotate hosting one of the games.

On a positive note it’s still a 0-0 tie. -

100% agree. It’s egregious/ridiculous/inexcusable that schools can negatively recruit, due to the style of play/refs, against the Big Ten. -

If Providence, Creighton, or any other team thought they had a legitimate shot to get a top 10, probable one and done player, they would be all over that recruit. I agree with your point that UM has the best chance in the Big Ten to get a one and done but one of your initial premises, that I was replying to, was that many schools have an INTENTIONAL strategy to not go after one and dones. My point is that it is not an intentional strategy but rather a realization that they can’t land those players and that most of the top recruits are not flocking to the Big Ten. -
