They seem hell-bent on “keeping it in the family” and my money is on Hubert Davis. I rarely do this but when Roy retired I checked a UNC site and more than one poster was saying they needed to throw a ton of money at Stevens, Few or Bennett. Reminds me of another fan base:)

It was disappointing that Fitzner went from a 40% 3 point shooter his junior year, at St Mary’s, to a 30% 3 point shooter at IU. On the other hand.....in a weak conference he averaged 5.5 points as a sophomore and 5 points as a junior. A 6’11” guy in a weak conference only averaged 5 a game as a junior so it’s not a shocker that when he moved to the Big Ten he only averaged 3.5 at IU. EDIT: Parker averaged 9 points and shot nearly 39% from the three in the much tougher ACC. “On paper” he seems like a safer bet than Fitzner.

I know it’s a crazy scramble at the end but with 3.3 seconds to go Suggs was allowed/able to dribble all the way past half court without anyone coming close to at least make him slow down or change direction. I know UCLA did not want to foul but he was just allowed to dribble full speed in a straight line.

100%. Couldn't believe they showed replays and the commentators didn’t say a word. Should have been a very obvious call.
-
He definitely did improve aspects of his game. From what we are hearing about Woodys offense, and the needs we have, he would be a lot more valuable/needed if he was a 36% three point shooter instead of low 20’s. In any case who knows if he even enters the portal.

Gonzaga has offensive possessions that make me say “I wish we moved the ball like that” out loud. Fun to watch. There was a 5 minute or so time period in which it seemed like the refs had money on the Zags. Pretty cleanly called the balance of the half. I love the tourney but the Lily ATT commercials make me question if it’s worth watching. Man I’m sick of that stupid schtick.

Good thing we have Woody.

I agree and it shows how things have changed. In the past (yes, I know the past is the past) we would have chuckled if we were battling against Baylor and Houston for a player.
-
I happened to be at that game. IU literally looked scared during warmups while they were stretching and the crazies were screaming at, and mocking, our guys well before tip-off. Totally outmatched. I was also at the prior game at Duke (with Blackmon etc) and at least we were in that one for half of the first half..LOL. Wasn’t pretty but not as bad as the “Romeo” game.

Mike Woodson and His Coaching Staff
DChoosier replied to Hoosierfan1901's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
So your saying he is due..... -
I haven’t answered yet because I’m unclear if the question pertains to “singles” (Indiana State, Knight PU game, Fort Wayne, OSU play-in game, etc etc ) or “box sets” (12/13, last 6 in a row this year, 7 in a row to PU, 6/7 to Rutgers etc etc). So many choices!!
-
I agree. The “difference makers” in the portal will each have 15-20+ schools after them. Do we get a stud or two or have to resort to scraps....to be determined. I’m a little more nervous than some as the thought of only having Leal and Stewart (if Franklin, Lander and Rob leave) as our returning backcourt is scary to me.
-
I really hope that did not happen as it would be staggeringly stupid, especially since there was an attempt to keep everything quiet.
-
Your right. I think Woodson should just give up now.
-
I know some of you are tired of IU driving 60 in a 60 MPH zone but I think WWW is like driving 90 in a 15 MPH school zone. When he was involved with Cal nearly every comment involved either dirty or shady and he allegedly (stress the word allegedly) helped Anthony Davis get 200k to go to UK. Not sure I want to see him sitting court side at the Hall.
-
You limit the potential pool to positions of need, who performed last year, etc. etc. He is not going to look at film of guys that scored 3 or 4 points a game at St Mary’s or Florida Gulf Coast, as an example. Probably won’t bother with west coast guys that probably want to stay on the west coast. That 1,000 is under a 100 real quick.

I have no idea but know the odds of the first coach to follow a “legend” doing well aren’t great. its always hard to tell if a coach will work out. Many thought Archie was a home run hire while many laughed at UCLA when they had to dip to their 89th choice, Cronin. Who knows?

Mike Woodson and His Coaching Staff
DChoosier replied to Hoosierfan1901's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Does this mean you think Roberts Is out? Earlier I posted that Roberts might get the UNCG head job if Miller gets the UNC position but I’d bet on Davis getting the UNC job. With Hunter staying I’m not sure it would be a bad thing if Roberts went elsewhere. My thought is 100% not because of Roberts being a bad coach but rather do we want 2/3 of Woodys assistants to be from the prior disaster? I don’t think so and that’s why I’d also like 3-4 new players. Not fair to Roberts but sometimes “stuff” happens. -
I agree with that but was just saying that a ton of film time is not required to the extent of prior years since the new staff can look at college stats. Helps winnow the number of targets down more quickly.
-
I agree. In this unusual portal year we will be looking to fill multiple slots with guys that have already played in college. It’s a huge help that Woody and the staff can look at college stats, instead of high school stats, of players under consideration and get a quick idea if they can play, will know what type of competition the kids team played against and it doesn’t take long to figure out what type of system the player was in.
-
Not disagreeing but I consider Bob Knight to Pat Knight the ultimate poster boy. Retire in the middle of the season and push your son into the job. That was a disaster.
-
Your right and a week or so ago I mistakenly thought he had a poor three year run. In his 3 years he went to the Final Four twice and was once the national coach of the year. I remember when he got the job and thought he was awfully old to get the UNC job as he was 60 and retired at 63. My current thinking due to two factors, Woody and my own “advanced” age, has since changed..... LOL....
-
As “settled in” and secure as Roy was in the position you would think this wasn’t a rash decision and that he and the AD already have the succession plan in play. I’m thinking the new head coach announcement will be real soon.
-
Yes, UNC is every bit as ready as IU, especially being in the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill metro area.
-
Mike Roberts was associate head coach, and spent 8 years there, at UNCG. Wonder if he gets offered the head coaching job if UNC picks up Wes Miller
