Crean had a staggering 9 players transfer after last season including his top 3 scorers and a freshman that made the SEC all-freshman team. I wish him luck but this off season has been an epic blowup.

(2021) PG Khristian Lander to Western Kentucky U.

I agree with you in regards to their interview technique. I realize they annoy a lot of people but I find some of their player discussions of non-game related topics, such how does it feels to play at the Hall, campus reactions after a win, how coaches interact at practice, what do you think about Bloomington, chemistry and personalities of teammates, etc etc more interesting than the typical “the team seemed to have their “A” game” type interviews. -
Prediction League (Game 1 - Eastern Michigan 11/9/21)

I predict Woodys first game will not be the same as Archies (a 21 point home loss to Indiana State……ouch) IU - 90 EMU - 67 -
(2022) - PF Noah Clowney to Alabama

I think your example actually reinforces that top talent isn’t choosing to go to the BT. In most cases the Big Ten has less “one and dones” because those players have been turning down the BT, not because they were not pursued by the Big Ten. The number one player in the 2021 class had 8 BT offers. Nearly every top 35 player in the 2022 class has Big Ten offers with many having 3/4/6 BT offers. 2022 Number 8 Filipowski, who was recruited by IU, had 8 Big Ten offers but committed to Duke. Number 2 Lively had three BT offers but also committed to Duke. Number 5 Whitehead had 2 BT offers but chose Duke. Do those 3 players, as an example, indicate that the BT doesn’t try to recruit those type of players or that Duke successfully lands those players? I would say the latter. -

On a positive note for the conference the BT has 8 commitments from the #36-70 players (OSU 3, UM 2, MSU 2, IL 1) -

I looked at 247 recruits rankings. 28 of the top 35 players have committed. JHS, going to IU, is the ONLY one of the 28 committed players going to the Big Ten. No Big Ten school leads for any of the remaining 7 players. If that turns out to be true JHS will be the only top 35 recruit going to the BT. The 28 top 35 commits so far: SEC (11) - UK-3, Bama 2, Soon to be Texas 2, Arkansas 1, S. Carolina 1, Florida 1, LSU 1, PAC 10 (5) UCLA 3, Oregon 2 ACC (5) Duke 3, UNC 1, ND 1 Big 12 (4) Kansas 3, Baylor 1 Nova 1, Houston 1, IU 1 -
What a joke when you consider what LSU (bags of cash), Kansas (bags of cash), Duke (million dollar home for Zion and family) etc., etc., have done. I can’t stand Illinois but the inconsistent enforcement of the rules is an absolute embarrassment to the NCAA.

I took a look at the Banks thread (duh…LOL) and it sounds like he is currently more of a 3/4 tweener while Clowney is more of a 4 (ie closer to filling TJD’s shoes). -

DChoosier replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Question to those in the know…….. I’m not trying to “no big deal” losing Clowney, as he would have been a great addition, but is there a significant difference between his game and Bank’s game? I have no idea if their games are completely different but their recruiting profiles are pretty similar. They are nearly the exact height and weight and ESPN has Clowney at 66 and Banks at 81 while 247 lists Clowney’s composite ranking at 62 with Banks at 82. Yes a difference but not a huge one. Just asking as many posts have mentioned Clowney filling TJD’s shoes while Banks has barely been mentioned. Any insights? -

I agree we need to win and get past the Sweet 16. That being said….Alabama has never made the final four and only made it past the Sweet 16 (to the Elite 8) once in their history, in 2004. No denying Oates is killing it on the recruiting trail. A 5 star SF also committed to Bama today. I also think we are in good hands with Woody. -
Congratulations to Al for finally beating PU! Figures he had 19 points, 6-6 from the FT line and 5 assists vs only 1 turnover. Guess all the Archie coaching is finally paying off for him. LOL

I also thought that would help…especially since it looks like Bama is getting another PF ranked quite a bit higher (13th) than Clowney. -

If Clowney does indeed pick Alabama I solemnly vow to never again pay attention to recruiting threads…..At least not until the next one:). -

I realize that many have an issue with the Hoosier Hysterics guys but I don’t see anything wrong with that particular tweet. If the rumors are true this is a bummer as the earlier sentiment was that Bama had no shot and I thought the fact that they are supposedly landing Walker, the number one rated PF in the US, would help our chances. If Alabama gets Walker they will have landed three of the top 18 rated players in the country plus potentially #62 Clowney and #63 Griffey. That’s crazy. -
Archie vs Woodson (recruiting so far after 7ish months)
DChoosier replied to Southside's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I agree. When UNC/Duke/Baylor/Villanova/UVA/UConn won championships did literally anyone ask or care how many of their players came from North Carolina, Texas, Pennsylvania, Virginia, or the high school basketball hotbed of Connecticut? I’m all for getting the Indiana cream of the crop, when those players fill a need, but aside from that let’s get players that get us the W’s ( with the caveat that they are a good fit). -

I know zero about what he wants to do but it looks like Bama is going to land the #1 PF in the country. Does PF Clowney want to join, share time, with him? I would guess no. -
IUBB 2021 General Off-Season Thread
DChoosier replied to Dalton26's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
So aside from that, are you are saying that you really like the guy? :) I agree with those that think the announcement will probably be his own show/podcast with a player(s) getting NIL $$$. I don’t like his clickbait, and him saying this will be bigger than IU/KY playing again, but in this day and age any source of NIL $$$ helps with current players and future recruits. -
I’m not sure if he is comparable and was responding to prior posts, without really paying attention to the thread title, but do know I’m very happy that Woody pulled in JHS. A point guard with that size, and that plays against the competition that the FL academies face, is a coup for Woody and the program. It is often said that college games are won with guards and without coaching a single college game Woody has landed Bates, JHS, Gunn and Newton….!!! Very impressive.

Yep, and in 50 minutes an injured Hulls and Yogi were 0-7 from the field. I’m not defending Crean, as he never seemed to master playing against the zone, but Hulls was hurt and the team did not play well at all (including Cody). Syracuse was a very good team that was top 10 much of the year (and #3 for multiple weeks) and held Marquette to 39 points after the IU game. Some of the posts I have read through the years virtually make it sound like we lost to UE. I remember talking to a co-worker, that was a knowledgeable Syracuse fan, prior to the game. I expected him to say it would be a tough game etc, etc but he said “we crush teams with midget guards like you guys have” (ie barely 6’ Hulls and Yogi) and that Michael Carter Williams (lottery pick) would dominate them. He was right. Crean was never good against zones but part of the “luck of the draw” of the tourney is the match-ups and Syracuse was just about the last team we would have wanted to face.

Archie vs Woodson (recruiting so far after 7ish months)
DChoosier replied to Southside's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I agree with getting the cream of the crop in Indiana because the state produces top talent in most years and it is probably good for the program/state/culture to have some in-state guys. That being said I’m very happy Woody is having out of state success. Our last banner was in 1987. Only 4 IU players scored in the championship game (hard to believe) and they were from Indiana, Louisiana, California and Illinois (ie Alford was the only Indiana guy to score). -
Archie vs Woodson (recruiting so far after 7ish months)
DChoosier replied to Southside's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I agree with most of the post except the statement that “his teams mostly played hard”. The lack of having teams that consistently played hard was one of the most surprising/disappointing aspect of the Archie era. The Knight returns game, the tourney play-in against OSU, games during the 12/13 streak, etc etc etc. Poor effort. His work hard, lunch pail “brand” was an illusion.
