They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread
Hoosierfan2017 replied to Banksyrules's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Because a team full of mercenaries who just come to IU because it offers the most money isn’t what some of us want from IU? But it’s the only option given Woodson’s laziness. Most coaches work their butts off 52 weeks a year while Woodson sits back and just throws his billionaire buddies’ cash at recruits for a couple weeks during the portal season. It’s not a style I care to root for. -

First off, you’re wrong. Second off, I find it funny that you constantly whine about this thread but are one of its most frequent posters. -
Braylon Mullins (2025) SG - to UConn
Hoosierfan2017 replied to Barrel Rick's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
I mean just looking at it objectively, there’s really no comparison between IU and UConn as programs right now. The only thing Mike Woodson has to offer guards/wings right now is money. His offense has ranked 13th, 14, and 14th in the Big 10 the last three years in three point attempts. He thinks basketball is played “inside out” in the year 2024. He’s won 1 tournament game in three seasons. If you want to play for the highest bidder? Ok, maybe Mike Woodson’s IU is the team for you. If you care about winning and playing for a competent coach? Mike Woodson’s IU probably isn’t the right fit for you. UConn offers him a fun offense, money, and a coach coming off back to back national titles. -
They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread

Coach Cig has IU freaking football at 6-0 but people claimed we couldn’t fire Woodson after three years because “it takes time to build a program.” Serious coaches can transform a program overnight in the portal/NIL era. Coach Cig and Woodson are 3 years apart in age but 30 years apart in energy. We’d be far better off putting all that basketball NIL toward the football team as long as Mike Woodson is around. Throw some of Woodson’s salary Coach Cig’s way too. -
Rourke is the best IU quarterback since: _______. For me, I think he’s the best I’ve seen during my IU fandom. Penix obviously went on to kill it at Washington, but injuries kept him from ever fully putting it together at IU. Rourke is completing 74% of his passes and is consistently slinging it down field.

How is Jack Tuttle still in college lmao dude is 25 years old and graduated high school in 2018.

IU basketball has played zero games between them and now, so not exactly sure why you’d expect opinions to be different…

Cool

Just as I predicted so far. Hope I’m wrong about our next game, though.

He should still be fired for hiring/retaining Mike Woodson. Coach Cig shows you don’t need multiple years to rebuild a program. You just need a competent coach.

Platers are free to do whatever they want. But if I’m a coach trying to build a culture, guys who quit on their team mid season aren’t exactly who I’m looking to fill my roster with. The fact he didn’t fit Coach Cig’s culture says a lot, imo.

Obviously IU can’t compete with Florida’s resources, but the problem for them is kinda like the problem for iubb. Dan Mullen went 10-3 (5-3), 11-2 (6-2), and 8-4 (8-3), and then got fired for one bad 5-6 season. Now, in addition to schools like Bama, Georgia, LSU, and Tennessee, you also have to compete against Texas and Oklahoma. The UF administration will expect you to be as good as those teams on a yearly basis and will fire you if you aren’t. Those results make you the greatest coach in IUFB history. It’s unrealistic to expect 10-11 win seasons consistently at IU, but 8 or 9 win seasons are entirely realistic now that divisions are gone. Maybe it’s always been his dream to coach a premier program. If that’s the case, it’ll be hard to keep him given the demand there will be after this season. But the iu job pays him millions of dollars a year to coach in a top 2 conference at a school with low expectations but increasing resources.

This game has taught me that IU isn’t allowed to tackle anymore. For every one legitimate targeting call there are about 50 absurd ones. -

Targeting might be the worst rule in the game. -

Night and day difference between Allen and Coach Cig on the sidelines. Allen would be doing cartwheels at this point. Cig’s style is a breath of fresh air. -
Notre Dame once again proving itself as the most fraudulent team in college football. A yearly tradition.

Coaching a team his kids/Hunter don’t play on would probably be his best bet because there’s no way the blatant favoritism doesn’t cause riffs in the locker room. Then again Shedeur and Hunter are pretty good so who knows if Deion would have any success coaching a team without them.
