Kyle Schwarber - Philadelphia Phillies

Could Schwarbs hit 500? I think it's gettable if he plays until age 38. Especially if he adds another 40-50 HR season somewhere in there. -

Just gonna point out in the way of shear wishful thinking that Robert Miller from LSU is still unsigned. I’m sure it’s because he’s looking for ridiculous jack and probably guaranteed starter minutes but, man, from a skill fit perspective that’s all you want in a 3rd big right there. -

I’ll take a stab at the general philosophy, even though I haven’t been all that critical of this roster. In fact I think they did a pretty good job. But I assume the counter is something like: Take Sherrells $5mil and split up between the 4 and 2 spots. Could you get Estrella and Blackwell for $5mil combined? Probably not, but go a couple spots in each ranking respectively and you will get there. How about Vasks and Kwame Evans? Now that you have a 2 guard you can take the 1-2mil?? they gave Lyndsey and go get yourself a couple mid major backups at the Pg and C spot who 1) don’t mind not playing much, but ate 2) willing to come for a big payday. If you succeed, you’ve alleviated much nervousness throughout IU message board land. If you fail, you’ve likely down graded your starting lineup so you can have two unplayable guys like Tayton Conerway and Payton Sparks beef up your depth chart but largely sit the bench and be tall cheerleaders. -

13-7 baring injury. Win 2 games in the btt and 1 in the ncaa. Finish somewhere around 26-9. Good enough to keep everyone except probably a couple freshmen. Add another hs kid to the incoming class and be in the market for upgrades to the last 2 kids we signed and maybe one really good wing. -
I've waited my entire life for someone like Pam Whitten to force that paradigm shift in the athletic department. I still can't believe the top brass hired an established successful football coach with a resume to back it up. Cloud nine, man. Cloud nine.

Based on where we are, with the $500k we assume is left, I'd spend it on a Euro that can play the 4/5 and be an 8th or 9th man next year. Hoping that's what we do with the final spot. Having two "practice players" is totally fine with me. If we do get that playable front court depth, my concern about roster construction largely fades, although everyone could nitpick if they really wanted to. Shooting doesn't look like the strength it was last year but the offense should be more balanced and defense should be better with more athleticism and rim protection. In terms of where we've spent so far, I'm curious about a few things. 1) The process with Lindsay came together very quickly and seemed straightforward transactional, do we get the ROI we need from him? I like Lindsay and hope so. Not sure what we spent on him to seal the deal within like 48 hours. How much leg work had been done beforehand? We'll never know, can only judge based on results on the court 2) We prioritized Harris early. Did we nail that scout? What did we see in his very limited action at Duke that made us confident he'd be productive here? And how much did it cost to get him vs how much did Nick Dorn want? Will Dorn prove to be a more productive ACC player for Lucas? 3) Sherrell has been described by Alabama fans as not really a guy you throw the ball into and count on to get a bucket. I'm least concerned about this, but we spent a pretty penny here and need him to play like it. When it comes to your hypothetical, those are the questions that stand out to me in terms of how we could've spent differently to build a different roster. It's not easy when you're filling 12 spots but I'd say the staff has done pretty well overall. We were never going to have a truly elite roster. Need to earn the investment this year though. -

Accept the fact that IU basketball isn’t elite and was lucky to get the money they got to build the roster they have and fill it in with 3 spots that cost next to nothing. Hope the roster is good enough to produce a winning conference record. If it is then hopefully retain and build another roster that can produce another winning conference record. -

Let's add some flavor to that last criteria: You've already asked Scott Dolson for more money multiple times. EACH TIME PAM WHITTEN WAS THERE TOO (take that, Old Fart). The first time Scott and Pam said "Yes, but this is the last and only time I'll entertain the question." Yet you asked again. The second time you asked Scott and Pam said "NO." You tried asking one more time. Scott and Pam stated they would immediately reduce your future money pool if you EVER asked again during this cycle, or if you went behind their back to donors or the Board of Trustees. -

Making the tourney is a must this season for sure. Beyond that I’d want 2nd round or better but honestly it was a complete rebuild (again) and they’re all multi-year players so do well enough in conference, make the tourney and keep building next season with a strong 2027 class and Portal adds and we’re back to consistent strong seasons. That’s the path. -

Okay, I get the roster concerns. There is validity there. But just for fun, let me know what people would do with the last three roster spots assuming the following criteria which seem to be where we are: 1) You've got about $500K for the last three spots. 2) You cannot ask Scott Dolson for more money. 3) You can suggest we should have not signed someone. For example, say we should have passed on Aiden. Then that's ~$4.5M saved and now we've got $5M for four spots. 4) Once again, you cannot ask Scott Dolson for more money. Let me know. And the plan cannot be asking Scott Dolson for more money. Edit: lol. Or ask anyone else for more money. No Pam, or Mark, or Cook, or Simon, or the guy who owns BuffaLouie's... -

https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/48627615/ranking-offseason-college-football-power-4-teams-2026#nd ESPN article titled "Ranking the Offseason for Every Power 4 College Football Team" Overall top 10 1. Indiana Hoosiers: Indiana isn't going anywhere after winning its first national title, putting together an offseason that sets up the team for even more success. The coaching staff continuity is staggering, and Indiana addressed clear portal needs at quarterback, wide receiver and pass rusher, while retaining core players at offensive line, defensive tackle and linebacker. 2. Miami Hurricanes: Mario Cristobal's pedal-down personnel approach got Miami to the brink of a national title, and his program is showing no sign of slowing down. The Darian Mensah addition from Duke solidifies the offense, and Missouri transfer Damon Wilson II should help offset NFL losses at pass rusher. Miami also retained all of its coordinators from a staff that works well together. 3. Texas Longhorns: After missing the CFP for the first time since 2022, Texas had a very aggressive offseason in terms of players retained (quarterback Arch Manning and others), players added from the portal (wide receiver Cam Coleman, running back Hollywood Smothers and others) and even its defensive coordinator change (Will Muschamp returning to Austin to replace the respected Pete Kwiatkowski). The next step is clear: win the program's first national title since 2005. 4. Oregon Ducks: Despite consecutive blowout losses in the CFP, Oregon is set up to push for its first national title. The Ducks retained quarterback Dante Moore, a top NFL prospect, as well as their entire starting defensive line, wide receiver Evan Stewart and other key contributors. They again lost no starters in the portal, while adding Minnesota safety Koi Perich and others. Coach Dan Lanning's internal promotions for the coordinator roles are worth watching. 5. LSU Tigers: The team that topped last year's offseason rankings certainly dominated the headlines, as Lane Kiffin's arrival in Baton Rouge kicked off a wild winter. LSU retained star defensive coordinator Blake Baker, brought over key assistants from Ole Miss and made portal splashes with quarterback Sam Leavitt, offensive tackle Jordan Seaton, defensive lineman Princewill Umanmielen and others. The staff also kept Whit Weeks and others from the 2025 roster. 6. USC Trojans: Lincoln Riley says USC's championship window is opening now in Year 5. The Trojans have backed up that ambition with major investment in their roster and the No. 1-ranked recruiting class, and they answered their few lingering needs with proven portal talent. The big wild card here is new DC Gary Patterson and how quickly he gets this defense playing up to his elite standards. 7. Texas Tech Red Raiders: We're not dropping Texas Tech out of the top 10 at this time despite the uncertainty around quarterback Brendan Sorsby's eligibility amid an NCAA gambling investigation. The Red Raiders checked every other box with their offseason recruiting victories, reloading with premium portal pickups and blue-chip high school talent, to go along with strong roster and staff retention. 8. Ole Miss Rebels: The Rebels won their battle with the NCAA to get Trinidad Chambliss back for another year. They kept star running back Kewan Lacy out of the portal. New coach Pete Golding did an impressive job of reloading throughout the defense via the transfer portal. He and his staff capitalized on their CFP momentum and did what they needed to do for Ole Miss to remain a contender in 2026. 9. Notre Dame Fighting Irish: Coach Marcus Freeman rejected NFL interest knowing this Irish team has more than enough coming back to make another CFP run. The Irish have a ton of talent for 2026, inked a top-five recruiting class, and met their portal needs with high-upside additions at defensive tackle and wide receiver. 10. Ohio State Buckeyes: Georgia, Texas A&M and several other programs had great offseasons. But it's hard to nitpick much about how the Buckeyes' offseason played out, with plenty of star power returning and key veteran additions on defense. New OC Arthur Smith's influence on the offensive direction will be intriguing to follow as this squad pursues its second national championship in three years.

IU/Scott/Pam already locked up Cig, but it's cool to see him start to become a "Hoosier" beyond just being the FB coach. This event was sold out. In a little over a week he's going to play a big role in the biggest event in the state. Very cool. IU handed out these towels last night. Poor IUBB, had to add "historic" in front of blueblood...
