  1. Past hour
  2. Doubt we have the money but jordan burks would be my dream end to the transfer portal season. Feel like we'd have a lot of lineup possibilities with someone like him in the fold
  3. Sarratt ran a 4.72 at his pro day. 1st rounder Coop ran a 4.42. As a WR. Anyone have any actual evidence that Kaelon isn’t fast? Because I’m citing a timed 4.45 that says he is.
  4. I don’t think Black was slow. More a reflection of the style of ball we played which was we are gonna run it right at you and push through the defense till we find space. Thats going to be slower in game than being fancy and looking for space from the get go. Plenty of times he found space and just sped through though
  5. Wonder what Coach Cignetti’s response would be to your post/evaluation. LOL
  6. Doubt the Niners are getting tricked into thinking they just drafted a burner here. If that’s what we’re using to call this a horrible pick, then give me a break. They drafted a back that’s strong as an ox with good vision, and is a really good pass protector. “Would still be there in the 6th round” lol good grief. If you’d like to see a horrible 49ers draft pick, take a look at De’Zhaun Stribling at 33.
  7. Ways in which Kaelon Black is 100% elite? Strength, pass protection, short space burst, ball security (he literally has never fumbled). Ways in which he is well above average for an NFL back? Speed (4.45) shiftiness. Ways in which he is below average? Name recognition, age. The only ones I know of that projected him as a late rounder are the Mel Kipers of the world. Every NFL team was at his pro day and eyes were opened. Wide.
  8. This is where the amnesia is killing me…lol. From the moment it was announced Woody was moving on there was tons of chatter on this board about not playing 2 bigs, playing a bunch of perimeters who can jack 3’s and play “modern basketball” (presumably small ball). And people were happy that Devries’ style was just that. It’s only relevant in this thread as so much as we can try and guess at any players that might be added next. This roster still needs one more big (quality to be determined) and is a little short on shooting. My guess is if Devries has his way It will be a cheap developmental big and maybe a proven shooter if we can snag one. Why? Because he likes to play small ball and will likely want to split time with Yigi and Sherrel on the floor. He built his first rosters at both WVU and IU as 4-out small ball rosters. That last statement would have elicited nearly unanimous agreement at this time last year. But maybe he’s really committed to putting a 5 with Sherrel on the floor at all times in which case they have to add a 5 who is proven they can play 10-15mpg. As far as I can tell he’s never built a roster like that, but he obviously has help building the roster this year.
  9. Obviously the 49ers evaluators and scouts disagree with you. You know the guys who do this every day. Good pickup, congrats Kaelon.
  10. Today
  11. 12-2 Iowa sticks it to us pounding out 15 hits that included 4 HR. Neubeck started went 4 innings giving up 7 hits and 7 runs. 4 more IU pitchers gave up the other 8 hits and 5 runs. We had 9 hits but couldn't put them together and left 11 on base.
  12. Yea, if he were 5’11 he’s easily a day 1 pick. Wish the Colts would’ve kept their first and just drafted ponds this year
  13. I am not saying Kaelon is "slow" at all. But lets remember to compare apples to apples. Combine uses a laser system to determine end time 40. As far as I'm aware (pls correct me if I'm wrong), pro days are usually hand clocked by scouts. We can compare Black's pro day to other pro days, but comparing to combine results introduces an element of human error. Hand clocked pro day times are know to be slightly faster, but that's anecdotal and sadly I dont have the mental bandwidth at 4:30 AM to research.
  14. He ran a 4.45 40, that's not slow. Skattebo ran a 4.65 at his pro day.
  15. Speed you say? Kaelon ran a 4.45 40 at his pro day. That’s better than average for a combine wr, nevermind a rb. The average 40-yard dash time for an NFL running back at the combine is generally between 4.49 and 4.59 seconds. Elite running backs often clock in under 4.4 seconds, while a time of 4.5–4.6 seconds is considered solid for the position. NFL.com +4
  16. I didn't expect it quite this early, but this is a great landing spot. He will get some run this season.
  17. He is gonna surprise some people
  18. While it did feel a bit early. A lot of teams liked him, especially after his performance at the senior bowl. He was a huge riser on draft boards post CFP and Senior Bowl. My guess is he was going Round 4 to somebody, so SF liked him enough to pull the trigger at the end of the 3rd.
  19. Great pick!. Franchise CB in making.
  20. Mendoza, Cooper, and Ponds will all be solid pros for a long time and great picks where they were taken! However, removing my rose colored glasses, that is a bad pick in third round with Black. He would still be there in the late rounds if 49ers like him and could make a nice complimentary back with his grittiness and ability to grind for yards. However, the third round is for franchise backs and Black is not that with his lack of speed. Not a knock on him and think could have a nice pro career and one of my favorite players. Just not a primary NFL franchise back with his somewhat slower wheels. He got caught from behind far to often on runs a franchise level pro back would not in college. Also, wish someone would have taken Sarratt or Fischer and whoever does next round will be getting steal on other solid pro guys for next several yrs. Also can't wait to see Coogan, Kamara, Hemby, and Nowakowski hopefully taken in late rounds for 10 total guys even if extended pro careers are a long shot. Mendoza, Cooper, Ponds, Sarratt, and Fischer will likely be the ones who are still playing in NFL in five years. Never thought I would live long enough to see double digit Hoosier pros taken in one draft including top pick but its a potential reality that makes me smile everyday:]!
  21. I love IU as much as anyone but that is a horrible pick in third round. He would still be there in the sixth round for 49ers if they like him and could make a nice complimentary back with his grittiness and ability to grind for yards. However, the third round is for franchise backs and Black is not that with his lack of speed. Not a knock on him and think could have a nice pro career and one of my favorite players. Just not a primary NFL franchise back with his somewhat slower wheels.
  22. The flood lights going out for a few minutes due to a glitch late in the game is the perfect message and metaphor from the baseball gods on the state of the program right now. Its why a leadership change is likely needed this year or next. Mercer really struggles with coaches like Rick Heller whose entire system is based on pitching and fundementals.
