Popular Post Str8Hoosiers Posted October 13, 2016 Popular Post Posted October 13, 2016 I went to the UofL Intra-squad scrimmage last night and it gave me an idea.... we should have a thread for anybody that goes to any games against our future opponents to discuss what we see.... Specifically I am thinking in relation to how they will play against us, and the lesser known players on a given team. So for 12/31 matchup with UofL here are some Scouting Reports (Attn Crean & Staff if reading this) Team doesn't appear too deep at most positions but is very BIG up Front. After 1 week at practice and with a short bench (because the team was split into 2 teams) they still pressed full court most of the game, going to have to ensure we are ready for pressure defense and they seem to focus heavily on coming from behind the ball handler and going for the ball. Unknown Sharp Shooter: Ryan McMahon is a sophomore who can shoot ala Steph Curry... He shoots with a high arc and a really fast release... he went 6-7 or so in the scrimmage form deep.... he is a defensive and ball handling liability but if he gets in the game we MUST protect the 3 point line because he can change things in a hurry. Weakness: They do not finish well in the paint. They miss more bunnies and layups by multiple 7 footers than I have ever seen. If we control their guards and force them to play through the bigs we have an above average chance that they will miss the gimmies... They also seem to be a little foul prone. They go hard after blocked shots (See Strengths) but this leads to some fouls as well as reach in fouls going for steals. Strengths: Size, they are tall and they are very active defensively looking for Blocked Shots. Donovan Mitchell can really jump for a guard and goes hard after blocks especially from behind the play. They have 2 7 footers who seem to be pretty good at being in position defensively and go after the blocks. ccgeneral, BtownBanner6, ThompsonHoosier and 7 others 10 Quote

Yea, my wife is a huge UofL fan and we live just across the river so we go to a lot of UofL events. I wasn't overly impressed by VJ King.... He went a long time scoreless, but after he finally broke through he ended up being one of the top scorers for the game. His shot wasn't smooth and he seemed to force... He was often out of position on defense, and Pitino seemed to get on him more than any other player on the floor for mistakes. That being said he did show that if he puts it all together he could be a good player. Quote
WayneFleekHoosier Posted October 15, 2016 Posted October 15, 2016 Read about BBM event. Too little to get a real indicator obviously but most of the "more reasonable" fans and scouts are worried about this teams outside shooting. They should be able to bang and run with the best of them but they will lose some games because of shooting problems. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners ALASKA HOOSIER 1 Quote

Last night they looked more together than they did the first game. They had one player who was out sick. Big thing for them will be defense they gave up 100.9 points last season and they were 110th in the NCAA. ALASKA HOOSIER and BGleas 2 Quote

Coach Chris Holtmann said the Bulldogs were more “connected” than in their first exhibition. They must continue to play that way, considering last season’s Butler defense was the worst in a decade. The Bulldogs allowed 100.9 points per 100 possessions, or 110th in the NCAA. ALASKA HOOSIER 1 Quote

In a typical game 70 possessions are probably the norm Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners HoosierAloha 1 Quote

Str8Hoosiers Posted November 8, 2016 Author Posted November 8, 2016 Went to another UofL game last night (Exhibition vs Bellarmine). VJ King looked a little better than the intra-squad game but he seems like a work in process. I am still nervous that is McMahon gets in the game against us he will shoot them into a spurt... that shot is so pretty. (Still doesn't play defense) But another more likely issue we may have with them will be another Guard Tony Hicks (grad transfer from Penn)... he is only 6'1" but he is very quick and gets into the lane.... Especially if JBJ is trying to guard him that would be a nightmare. *** For the record, not that this translates but we did beat Bellarmine by more. :) hsrtxp, HoosierAloha, WayneFleekHoosier and 4 others 7 Quote
