Colts / NFL Game Thread

Yeah, I'm inclined to think that anyone who thought New England was all offense, no defense in the early 2000's either wasn't paying attention back then or is confusing them with someone else.

Willie McGinest became a household name to the Colts' fanbase after he faked an injury to stop the game when the Colts were less than 5 yards away from winning, giving New England an extra timeout to substitute fresh players, then came back two plays later to make the game-ending tackle and celebrated by sprinting to midfield on his injured knee.

I guess as a Baltimore Ravens fan I really didn't pay too much attention to the specific defensive rankings year in and year out.. They didn't own my franchise for a decade like they did the Colts.

And for reference, these were not 'great' defenses. Mediocre with a few stars who could make plays. Here's what I could find as far as the Super Bowl seasons go... I don't think it's daring to say they made it to the AFC Championship with some bad defenses as well. :

2003 - #7 rated defense

2004 - #9 rated defense

2011 - #31 rated defense (Lost SB)

2014 - #13 rated defense

2016 - #8 rated defense

2017 - #29 rated defense (Lost SB)

Their resumes are pretty similar and history has shown balanced teams have more success.

Not saying the Colts would win. But stop acting like the Chiefs are some juggernaut. Paper tiger probably.

They are an elite offense. I'm not sure how anyone could argue against that. Don't think they win the Super Bowl, but from what I've seen from the Colts, no way I'd pick them if they make it to KC... I actually hope I'm wrong because I'd love to see the Ravens beat the Colts in the AFC Championship.

You literally have the word bad in your post

There's this thing called context.. And if you read what I actually wrote, I said there were some bad defenses that made it to the Conf Champ as well.

My specific comment about some of these Super Bowl teams was mediocre.

Don’t shoot the predictor but I feel it’s going to be Pats v Saints in the Super Bowl. It’s almost like you can’t go against BB and can’t go for Reid until they prove me wrong. On the NFC side I feel as a Bears fan home field is huge for the Saints. Great defense is the only way to beat the Saints. The Rams don’t have that. The Bears do but I just can’t see them go to New Orleans and winning. I can’t see the Boys going in there in January and beating them. I feel this is the Saints year. Unfortunately

You called the 9th rated defense bad. And yet I’m somehow taking it out of context by reading what you wrote Mkay. Mr NE was the real greatest show on turf

Ummm no I didn't. Literally, read what I wrote. Just because I included the word 'bad' in my post, does not mean I consider top 10 'bad'. Not sure where the disconnect is here, but whatever. I think this conversation has run it's course.

I'll check back in with you if the Colts make it to KC.

Are you actually bragging about never being good enough to consistently get that far in the playoffs? K, that makes sense

Lol, you didn't have to be a Colts fan to know who the Pats were back then or what made them great. They won 3 out of 4 Super Bowls, had back to back 14-2 seasons and won 21 games in a row. They were beating everybody...not just the Colts.

You didn't have to pay attention to rankings. Their defense got a lot more recognition than their offense during those years. Once players like McGinest, Bruschi, and Harrison began to decline or leave, that's when the focus started shifting toward Brady.

Yikes... That's just trolling... The Ravens have been in the playoffs in 11 of the 22 years they've been in existence and have the best win percentage in the playoffs in the history of the NFL.. That includes 4 AFC Championships and 2 Super Bowls between 2000 and 2012. There a only a few teams with more consistency.

Don't the Colts have a losing record in the playoffs?

I think I have a pretty good understanding of the game.. I played it very competitively for 12 years in the DMV. How about you?

...and yet that didn't help you understand the football you're talking about.  Hmm.

Are you one of the bitter Baltimore citizens at the Colts leaving town?  If you're one of the 8,000 people who went to the Colts games there, maybe you can have a beef.  The rest of you have fake outrage usually reserved for politics.

Wait, we talking about a decade, the whole history of the league, just the history of the Ravens, just the history of the Colts, how about we just take the time that the Jags have been in existence. Maybe we could find an time frame where you won't make statements like a team not being good defensively even though that is what drove those teams.

Your assumptions and generalizations about me are all 100% wrong. I was born in 1984, so nope, no "fake outrage". As far as politics, I'm one of the few Republicans in the state of Maryland (along with our Governor). And as far as football goes, you can say whatever you want about that. I've been on the field in big moments and know the game. Have you? You never answered that question.. I have a feeling you were one of the guys in the bleachers on Friday night wishing you could be out there with the guys.

What are you talking about? You said that the Ravens were never consistently there... I gave you direct facts that show how wrong you are. Including the timeframe between 2000 and 2012. Isn't that the "Manning Era"? The Ravens have 2 rings in that time frame, the Colts have 1 despite all of their postseason "success".

I went the extra step for you and included the entire history of the franchise, to show just how completely bogus and fake your comments are.

Man, your posts are all over the place.  I didn't have the size or athleticism to play football outside of backyards with my friends.  Now that that's out of the way, I knew the facts about the Patriots that you didn't.   What does that have to do with playing the game??  Lol...man your point keeps moving all over the place.

As for being born in 1984, that doesn't change things.  I've met people from Baltimore who were born after you, yet they hate the Colts for leaving Baltimore.  Your posts seem to show disdain for the Colts too.  Am I wrong?

LOL this post was a DIRECT response to your comments towards me.

Yes, you knew where the Patriots stood in terms of total team defense better than I did. I guess that means you know the game better than me? I mean what kind of logic is that?

I have zero disdain for the Colts. I am giving my opinion, which you don't like and you're taking it that way and that's on you.

Facts:

Colts = mediocre pass defense

Haven't beaten a good offense all season

Haven't shown me anything that makes me think they can go into KC and beat them

When you twist things to suit your agenda, it doesn't make your argument more valid.

Regardless, the games on the field will solve a lot of these debates.  I predict Baltimore to lose to the Chargers this weekend.
