We are going to have an awesome frontcourt next year, but let's talk about the backcourt for a minute.

I believe Curtis Jones is going to be a very good player and is being overlooked right now with the team we have coming back (rightfully so). Does anyone else think Jones may give Blackmon a serious run for his money at shooting guard, especially with Blackmon coming off all of his injuries? Do you envision situations where we play RoJo, JBJ and Jones at the same time? I am not sure what to expect out of Newkirk or Green, but I anticipate Newkirk getting major minutes. I think Niego will probably get some minutes as well.

Seems like if healthy:

Rojo

JBJ

Hartman

OG

Bryant

Guard depth chart 1-3 positions (yes we will use 3 guard sets)

Newkirk, Cujo, Green. Gelon likely only plays mop up minutes if any.

Wing depth chart 3-4 positions

DDavis, Morgan, McSwain

Center depth chart 5 position

DDavis, OG, Morgan, Priller.

Alternate smaller lineup...

Newkirk, Rojo, JBJ, OG, Bryant.

I think Cujo and Green have the skillset to earn minutes. Crean will need 3 guard sets to get them minutes.

TB's announcement today really puts some stability to next year's roster even if Troy leaves (which I expect).  The guard position is 'iffy' to the extent we simply don't know what the respective skill sets of Newkirk and JBJ will be in the aftermath of their major surgeries and lengthy rehabs - and in JBJ's case multiple surgeries.  If either can't hold up, our true freshmen guards will be getting extended minutes.

Rojo and JBJ will be our backcourt.  Hopefully with OG joining the starting lineup we can scheme around and hide JBJs defensive problems better.  I think our Backcourt actually has a chance to be a real strength, hopefully JBJ saw what this team could do with everybody buying into defense and is motivated this summer to work on that facet of his game.

I love our backcourt.  If healthy--we start the season solid and by season's end I predict we will be top-notch defensively and offensively. We will have experience--in RoJo, JBJ. and Newkirk. Our newcomers will improve greatly throughout the season.  With our personnel we will be able to match any competitor's moves by playing either big or small. The 3-pointers will be flying from all directions. I predict we will see a much improved Blackmon on defense if he is healthy. Anyone hearing how he's coming along? You know he's a competitor and has been watching and hearing about defense for months now.  He will improve.  This is going to be fun!
