Looking to next season

Am I the only Dr. Who fan on the board?  Every time I see pictures of them in their masks I can't help but think of the Empty Child episode when Christopher Eccleston was still playing The Doctor.

Creepy 2 part episode from the 1st season of the modern doctor who. Does captain jack harkness get introduced in that episode as well?

Right you are and it truly was creepy.   I think Capt. Jack stayed on as a regular for the remainder of that particular season.  He's also had a couple of guest appearances in later years.

I want to see a starting lineup of Newkirk, Johnson, OG, Morgan and Bryant. JBJ, Hartman, Davis and Jones coming off the bench. I don't think Crean has it in him to bring JBJ off the bench.

I hear ya, but a healthy JBJr is starting. Hartman will start also.

This should interesting how it plays out to start the season.

If JBJ is health:  RoJo, JBJ, OG, Hartman, TB  Key Reserves:  JN, CuJo, JMor, Davis  Could play: Green, McSwain  HVC:  Gelon, MSB

I still don't know how Newkirk figures into the starting lineup.  In the Crean era, Pritchard is the only starter who came off the bench the following season (I believe).  Will RoJo or JBJ come off the bench after starting for a few years?  Will we see that dreaded three guard lineup that stunk it up in Maui?

Guards:  We have a lot of versatility at the guard spot.  RoJo and JBJ have shown the ability to bring the ball up in previous years.  If RoJo is capable of the PG duties he would be my starter there.  JN could replace either JBJ or RoJo as the first guard off the bench.  I look for CuJo to play that OG/JMor role from last season, developing and learning then having an impact later in the season.  Green will get run in spot minutes probably similar to Niego last season.  If there is an injury in the backcourt he might see more minutes.  Gelon will probably get mop up minutes or a few minutes here and there to launch from distance.

Wings:  We should have a lot of versatility on the wing with both JMor and OG being able to play on the outside or inside with mismatches.  If we get high level defense from this group that will go a long way of keeping opponents from scoring in the lane.  I see Hartman starting along with either JMor or OG.  OG projects as All B1G type players but JMor had a solid frosh campaign while playing injured.  McSwain appears to be a freak athlete but still needs to learn the system.  He might be in a similar position as OG/JMor last season.  I can't see him taking minutes away from any of the players in front of him.

Bigs:  Thomas Bryant with a strong summer should be one of the top bigs in the B1G with Ethan Happ.  It will be interesting to see if he's worked on his handles to take other bigs off the dribble.  The few times he did it last season he beat his man.  Davis will probably come off the bench most of the time to replace TB but hopefully will get some minutes on the floor together.  Davis will also be learning the system as he arrives in Btown late in the summer.  This could be one of the better 1-2 bigs in the B1G.

Sorry for the long post, really stoked about the season and really bored while recovering!

Is a healthy JBJ the same JBJ we have seen in the past. 2 surgeries he might not ever be himself again.

I don't see it impacting his shooting or defense...  If he's on the floor with RoJo, OG, JMor, TB I'm okay with it as the other 4 are neutral or plus defenders. It could effect his ability to get to the rim though.  If he's not healthy enough to get back to where he was he could be that Z3 or Roth type bomber from deep.

He could get to rim but couldn't finish or would get rejected. He needs to drive when available. His defense must improve regardless of health. I think it will but if he isn't better than before on defense that will be a issue imo

He could and did finish before.  What he needs to develop is a solid floater though.  He has shown the ability to throw down in traffic or make a few high bank shots.  I'm not sure he'll have the sneaky athleticism he had before.  This is where a floater or getting more crafty as opposed to relying on athleticism will help him.  I don't disagree with his defense.  I would have JN starting if JBJ decides he doesn't want to play defense.  I would give some of his minutes to CuJo to prove a point.  I just don't think it'll happen.

A floater would do great things for JBJ's offensive game, he did get blocked a lot at the rim in past years.

5. A few people have asked if I was surprised by any omissions when we polled coaches to see which player they'd most like to have on their team for this season. My short answer is ... No. I think all reasonable answers were provided -- along with a bunch of unreasonable answers. But if the question is who's the best player that not a single coach mentioned, the answer, I believe, is probably Indiana's Thomas Bryant.

Last we started out the year with Yogi, JBJ, Troy, Hartman and Bryant. This year we could easily go with Newkirk, RJ, OG, Morgan and Bryant. Which would be enough offensively and probably best defensively. With a BIG scoring punch in JBJ off the bench, Hartman, Jones and DD all coming off the bench. That'd be the best route IMO. And going 9 deep is enough.

I like this lineup, but I would almost consider it a lock that JBJ starts. Not that I want him to, I just know that's what Crean will do.

Same, I do think that CuJo can be that scoring threat off the bench that we'll need. I'm excited to see how JMo, OG, and Bryant have all developed over the summer. I'm also thinking that Hartman and Bryant are guaranteed starters.

I think we will see a lot of three guard sets, like it or not.I'm not sold on RoJo in the lead role and really think Newkirk will see a ton of time there.Really think Morgan sees as much time as Hartman.
