2017 IUBB recruiting

Recommended Posts

Look what NC state did this year. Went from being ranked based off having Dennis Smith solely. Then in spring got the foreign kid, johnson, hicks and another kid I can't think of his name. Of the 4 Hicks was the only guy they were even hard after at this time last year. Things can change very quickly people we still have what looks to be a great season to look forward too. Our recruiting is only going to get better. TB, OG & JBJ whether defense or not someone will take him off his offense will be in the league. That's 3 added to Troy, EG, Vonleh, Zeller, & Oladipo. With Yogi having a chance as well. When your a guy or two away from double digit guys in the league it says a lot. Be patient people, Crean is laying the foundation. I'm perfectly okay w things right now. Green, Newkirk, RoJo, Cujo, DD, Juwan, Smith are all good players and Moore has potential. If we can get one of Tucker, Diallo(very long shot I know), Preston or another kid that pops up or reclasses I'm fine. If not Beatty isn't a bad consolation prize to those guys I would love him here and want him his position just isn't that needed. Next year should be the year we go hard after guards IMO.

Recruiting is only going to get better?

False, recruiting is currently on a downward trend and it can easily get worse.

Crean is laying the foundation?  If he is just now laying foundation how long till the house gets built?

You notice that this is really one of the first seasons where people don't seem to be calling for Crean's firing? His perceived job stability will only aid in recruiting, and he continues to get guys to the NBA. A Final Four at Indiana would really help.

He's been laying the foundation. You want recruiting results like that of Arizona, UK, Duke, Syracuse, and Louisville? Those coaches have been stable in their position for many many years, sending guys to the NBA, and winning. The kind of consistent recruiting you want takes a lot of foundation.

Having Hall of fame coaches doesn't hurt and besides Arizona all those programs have that going for them as well

Those coaches had stability because they won at a higher level than Crean.  Coaches have stability because they won and earned it, when people were calling for Crean to be fired because under his watch the program had fallen off a cliff when he should've built on and sustained and he had no track record to point to.

He wants their stability?  He has to win at their level, not the other way around.

That stability sure as hell didn't help this year in recruiting which looks to be leaving us in another "few down years" period.

How exactly is that going to help the program in the long term. But yeah I forgot the buzz word foundation. Building a foundation is all you need. Shame we really don't have one.

Our recent down year came off a big ten championship team and an incoming top 5 recruiting class. No one can know for sure how a future recruiting class will have an impact and be considered "down year period" or know one can say for sure if we landed a recruit like Preston that we automatically will be a better team. I'm sure Lsu fans thought that when they got Simmons and Blakeney that they would be playing in the tournament. They looked good on paper but paper can't win you games

That Big Ten champion team had 3 Five Stars on it. 4 really but JBJ was hurt.

Next years will have none.

Say what you will about recruiting rankings but I'd rather roll with highly ranked guys versus lower ranked guys. Especially with the amount we spend on recruiting.

Who were the four 5*'s? We've never had 4 on the same team.

My point was the team that went 17-15 had 3 star starters and 2 high 4 star. This result was after our first big 10 championship. We rolled with the highly ranked guys that year and didn't make the tournament. My point is luckily the NCAA allows teams to play the games on the court instead of just giving the win to teams with the 5 stars ( sarcasm button pushed)

Was he a 5 star when he committed?

Regardless that team had 2 next years team will have none.

Maybe not I don't know that for sure since I can't see that far into the future about who will be on the team next year. I can speculate that the team will have senior leadership at the guard position which in the tournament can go a long way and even without that precious 5 star by their names we will have Johnson (top 50 player as a senior), newkirk( top 120 player as a 5th year senior)
Juwan Morgan (top 80 player as a junior), deron Davis (top 40 player as a sophomore), cujo( top 40 player by espn, 60's for others) ,Justin smith ( top 70 player as a freshman). I'm sorry I just refuse to buy in to doom and gloom for next year with those guys in the mix. Just my opinion

Yes you are correct...

Back to discussing recruiting.
