Falcons Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 For the 2nd straight week, our offensive play calling was awful. This time the 2nd half was pretty poorly called. We had a chance to take control of this game, our ball down 26-28. Howard rushes for 9 and we get 0 yards on the next two plays and punt. We get the ball back at the 40 move it a bit, its 2nd and 4 and we were getting great push in the run game. Two incompletions and missed FG. You could without a doubt see our offensive line had their defensive line tired and playing on their heels. Instead of doing the smart thing and continuing to run it, we threw the ball and it costed us a chance from really taking over the game. Also, I am tired of seeing that trips play on 3rd and short, every time we run that, it gets blown up or does nothing. Back to back weeks those trips plays are awful. Spread them out so they cant stack the box and allow our offensive line to be even in numbers with defenders in the box and make a hole for our RBs. It is not rocket science. Quote
Naturalhoosier Posted October 25, 2015 Posted October 25, 2015 Sometimes you gotta blame execution instead of play calling. There weren't too many play calls that left me scratching my head. HoosierReb01 1 Quote

Brass Cannon Posted October 25, 2015 Posted October 25, 2015 Other than the 2 passes on 2nd and 1 and then third and 1. I really didn't have a problem with the play calling. I guess kicking the xp and FG were dumb but I don't think our problem is play calling it's our game philosophy. Quote

That was an awful call. Carrell immediately picked up the phone to thank them for making his call look slightly less idiotic. I guess since it worked in The Longest Yard... It's hard to say Lynch punches it in though. I saw something that said he had something like 5 carries on the year from the 1 yard line and only punched it in once. I still would've gave him the ball though. Quote

Well, there are calls that are dumb cause they didn't work, and there are calls that are dumb because there is no reason to believe they would ever work. IU runs a few of the latter, but the staff is getting too much grief about the first. There is no doubt even on the first that we need to be a little less vanilla at times. Point, some of the between the tackles running when its not Howard doing it. Class of '66 Old Fart 1 Quote
