B1G preseason picks

My view on Maryland is that deserve be the favorite. With that said, I do think they're being over-hyped a bit. I don't think this is a situation like last year where Wisconsin was clearly, far and away the best team in the Big Ten, and it wasn't even really close. I think Maryland is more like IU in 2012-13 where even though IU was the favorite, there were several other teams arguably just as good.

In 2012-13 IU was really talented and the favorite (you could argue over-hyped), but Michigan, MSU, OSU, etc., all could have easily won the conference too.

There's no doubt Maryland has a lot of talent, but I think they also have question marks. How will Layman do playing the 3? While their games are different, he's a lot like Troy. They both have wing skills to an extent, but excel playing the 4. They both also have a tendency to disappear at times. Also, with a move to a bigger lineup, will they be as effective playing a slower pace game?

How will Suilamon gel? They had that freshmen Nickens last year that started. Will he accept coming off the bench? I think Wiley is another guy who probably thought he'd step into a bigger role. Will he be happy being a spot/role player again?

How will they replace Dez Wells? They won A LOT of close games last year (several to very average or below teams) and in many of those games Dez was not only the leader, but the guy making the winning play. I think Trimble has the ability to be that guy, but he's just a sophomore and Dez's are big shoes to fill.

So again, I think they'll be really good, but they're not without question marks.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I completely agree. I hope they have college gameday against them in Bloomington Bc we are gonna smack em.

@JonRothstein: 15 Impact Big Ten Freshman: D. Stone (MD), C. Swanigan (Purdue), T. Bryant (IU), D. Davis (MSU), J. Coleman-Lands (Ill.), D. WIlliams (Ill.)

@JonRothstein: 15 Impact Big Ten Freshman cont'd: J. Lyle (OSU), C. Sanders (RU), A. Falzon (NW), G. Watson (Neb.), E. Morrow (Neb.), J. Reaves (PSU).

@JonRothstein: 15 Impact Big Ten Freshman cont'd: M. Watkins (PSU), E. Happ (Wisconsin), K. Dorsey (Minnesota).

Only 1 from IU class

I think the key is IMPACT. I don't think anyone is expecting anyone outside of Bryant to hav a significant impact given the depth of our (holy crap I finally get to say it) VETERAN roster.
