Popular Post HoosierReb01 Posted May 3, 2015 Popular Post Posted May 3, 2015 I think there will be about a dozen open scholarships at the end of the season. Attrition will probably open up a few more. Since nothing in those first two sentences would separate the two, I'll clarify that this is about Football recruiting, not Basketball, since some of you probably didn't check what forum this was in first. CKW and staff tend to not get excited and jump on a lot of early commits. Without checking I think our first commit last year was in June. I wouldn't be surprised if this class develops even slower. First, this is going to be a small class, so the staff is probably going to be a bit pickier with accepting offers. Second, depth, at most positions, is not a major issue as it was a few years ago. That's not to say we won't see some commits soon. We tend to pick up a handful of Midwest kids in the summer, often after they camp at IU, and fill out the class late with southern recruits and the recruits that the staff really wanted and were committed to recruiting to the very end. I'm getting really excited to see if this will be the breakout year for IU football under CKW and staff. 7 or 8 wins, especially if there is a high profile upset or two in there, could give this class a boost at the end the tips a few late commits our way. The talent pool at IU has definitely improved in the last few years, and the defensive coaching took a major upswing (180 degrees) last year. I want to see the time that highly sought after recruits with major offers are trying to figure out if they can get any playing time in B-town. I think this class is really interesting, I would still like to see it heavier on defensive recruits than offensive. Overall, pumped up and ready for the recruiting season to hit full stride, and for the team to take the field. hoosierwhodey Posted May 3, 2015 Posted May 3, 2015 I would love to see the focus in 2016 to be put on DT, DE, CB, and TE. I think we need to build some depth in those positions. This is the year that we see the results of multiple solid recruiting years in a row. In Football it really take 2-3 consecutive classes to see results on the field. barrettballer, HoosierReb01, ThompsonHoosier and 1 other 4 Quote

mhoban Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 This 2016 recruitment has been s-l-o-w. Spartans already have over 10 verbals, and we lost a QB to Michigan and lost Taj Williams. Our best recruiting pitch will be to win 7-8 games and go bowling. Quality recruits need to see there is progress being made. Talking about the future only works for so long. Quote

We are actually on the same pace as the last couple of years. One commit last year at this time, two the year before. CKW is not a big fan of early commits. Crimson and Cream 1 Quote
boog23 Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 We're right where we've been the past few years. With June camps coming up, we'll be getting a few commits soon. MemphisHoosier and ccgeneral 2 Quote

cchoneycut Posted June 21, 2015 Posted June 21, 2015 Ok I don't know where to put this, but is it a thing with College Football Coaches where they will recruit a certain area harder in anticipation that they will move to that area? Kevin Wilson has done a tremendous job recruiting Florida and Georgia and I'm just curious if there is opportunity out there for him. I don't know if that's why he recruits that area the hardest, and I understand there are tremendous athletes out there, but still he doesn't pay attention to Indiana much. Again no inside information from me just my curiosity getting the better of me. Quote

Its just a matter that we have struck out on most of the Indiana recruits this year. There are several committed elsewhere from Indiana that were probably top of the charts for the staff, and I would say that the staff will still be recruiting some of them right up until signing day. At the end of the day, if you don't win the battle for a player, you have to have plenty of options already in the works, and much of that is happening in Georgia and Florida. mamasa and Naturalhoosier 2 Quote
